It would be interesting to compare this list to the current number, if available, to see how things changed over time.

Setting Up House

Last night I set up the house in Rorus for the family. I had 79 prims and Sis' 15, so we are way under the 200 we may use. It surprised me that I managed to get sleeping for all of us and a fairly nice set up. Hopefully the family will like it.

I also placed a message book (or diary) at the house at the farm, the house and the merchant building in Rorus. All three have messages saying that I will not be around over the weekend.

Shadowing

Yesterday I talked with a free woman that my sister wants to have shadow me. Unfortunately she is having difficulty acclimating to the rules and behaviors of Gorean culture. It has been my suggestion that this free woman greet people and then be silent/shy saying little. Hopefully this will give opportunity watching what others do and say. The woman is young and is on her last opportunity to remain among us. I do not know if there is time to help her learn or not. I did give the free woman some thing to read over and I suggested that she did so daily until they were as well known to her as they would be to a Gorean learning them from birth.

Move to Thantis

June has come and I have returned to see my Father only to discovered that he has chosen to move the family to Thantis. With in a very short time that day filling out all the records occurred and I am part of the city. I remain blue caste as my mother was blue cast, sadly she died when I was young. Father being a wealthy merchant sent me to all the best schools available.

As of yet I have not ran into the Head of Caste for the blue and still wait to see her. Right now her name escapes me. Hopefully I will soon as there are meetings somewhere in the city on Tuesdays. Though I am not sure how much I will be working for the city as Father keeps me fairly busy helping with his work. Time will tell.

Father has a new companion and so far she seems really nice. Still doesn't seem right calling her Mother. Maybe some day it will.

----

I am thinking I might go and take the Magistrate class again since there has been a name change. It might be nice to hang up a certificate on the wall.

Change in Position - A New Chapter

On Tuesday 6/24/2014 I handed back the titles of Head of Caste and Head Magistrate to my SL parents. They want someone in the office that will be there more often and who is able to devote more time. I knew that this should be true, but I can not give more time to SL. So in agreement I have become only their daughter. Currently I am nothing more, with no job that I have to see to or work on. Mother said something about me helping her in the infirmary... I would prefer not to do this. I like the thought of being able to visit and wonder around without having to devote my limited time to a job. It sounds fun to be able to talk with people and be social.

Sadly I asked the woman they wanted to fill the job the wrong thing. I asked about the title that floated over her head "bitchy scribe". From what I know so far it is true. Part of me hopes that she does come back and fulfill the position... though she might make it hard to be there. I still think having a man at the top would be a good thing for the blue caste. I however am no longer a scribe, no longer stuck in the mold of having to be a magistrate. I have been one all the time I have been in Gor. It will be fun to have something else to do. Just to be different... just to be a young daughter rather than a woman on top and above most men. No longer a threat to men and able to order then around.

So begins a new chapter. I did not go into SL last night. Tonight I shall venture in for an hour or two and will see what has happened.

Gathering

As you can see I have been gathering information from many places and placed them here in my journal. There is a lot of information out there and it will be fun to read some of that information about the world of Gor. I am sure not all of it will be By The Book or even an attempt at it. Yet it will be informational to go through it.

Was thinking I would like to take pictures of SL and have here as well. Maybe even a bit of a record of what I have done each day that I am in SL. Who knows. I love having options.

Should someone happen on all of this, I hope you enjoy the record and reading.

Full Magistrate - I passed the exam.

City of Turia - Scribe Caste - Blue Caste
Exam for the position of Magistrate in the City of Turia

I. What qualifications are needed for a Magistrate?
- an understanding of Gorean society
- a knowledge of the various Gorean laws and codes.
- an ability to listen to people with an open mind
- be able to see the situation from both view points or how many their may be
- be able to decide what is reasonable and what is not
- be firm enough to not be pushed into a decision

2. What are the basic functions and responsibilities?
- preparing important companionship contracts
- certifying legal transfer of property
- certifying official documents as legal
- investigating crimes and asking questions
- checking slaves for brands on rounds through city
- taking complaints from citizens
- sentencing
- interrogations
- investigating and arresting for fraud
- judge and make sure execution are preformed
- settles disputes that are between different cases members.
- passing sentences of punishment
- holding people prisoner in cells
- sentencing male criminals to work chains

-goes to council meeting to be aware of changes they may discuss
- checking free women  for tattoos when there is a suspicion that one is a slave in disguise
- decide if someone is a thief and notch their ear

3.Give five (5) quotes on where in the books a Magistrate was used to decided a case.
"That her ear had been notched indicated that by a magistrate, she had been found thief."
Hunters of Gor
The drink she gave me," said Arn, smiling, "was well drugged. I awakened at dawn, with a great headache. My purse was gone."
"Times are hard," said Rim.
"I complained to a magistrate," said Arn, laughing, "but, unfortunately, there was one present who well recalled me, one with whom I had had prior dealings." He slapped his knee. "Soldiers were set upon me, and, over the roofs and into the forests, I barely escaped."
Hunters of Gor

Most ports and islands on Thassa, of course, are not managed by the Merchants, but, commonly, by magistrates appointed by the city councils. In Port Kar, my city, the utilization of the facilities of the port is regulated by a board of four magistrates, the Port Consortium, which reports directly to the Council of Captains, which, since the downfall of the warring Ubars, is sovereign in the city. I suppose the magistrate, who, with his papers, met us at the dock, did not believe my story.
Hunters of Gor

Similarly, slave girls, attempting to escape, can be separated out from free women, even when all are veiled and wear the robes of concealment. Again, the tests may be simple. Once, in Ko-ro-ba, I saw a slaver, before a magistrate, distinguish such a girl, not even one of his own, from eleven free women. Each, in turn, was asked to pour him a cup of wine, and then withdraw, nothing more. At the end, the slaver rose to his feet and pointed to one of the women. "No!" she had cried. "I am free!" Officers of the court, by order of the magistrate, removed her garments. If she were free, the slaver would be impaled. When her last garment had been torn away, there was applause in the court. The girl stood there. On her thigh was the brand.
Hunters of Gor
Kill the spy," said a man.
"No," said Aurelion. "We will take him to the magistrates."
The double gate was unlocked by Strabo, who had recovered his keys. Four men made ready to conduct Clitus Vitellius from the tavern.
"It is the heavy galleys for spies," said one man.
"Better to kill him now," said a man.
"No," said Aurelion, "conduct him to the magistrates. They will have much sport with him before he is chained to a bench."
Slave Girl of Gor
Shall I have you taken before the magistrates of Ar," he inquired, "to substantiate your claim of citizenship?"
Slave Girl of Gor

4. Give 5 Laws concerning Free Men  of the Red Caste.
The only honorable reply to a challenge is to accept it promptly. (Warriors do not back down from challenges. They face such matters with bravery.)
One who has shed your blood, or whose blood you have shed, becomes your sword brother, unless you formally repudiate the blood on your weapons. This is part of a bond shared by Warriors that overcomes city barriers. It is a matter of Caste that supersedes allegiances. It is a showing of respect for those who this Caste. Code: Warriors do not break their sworn word.
The only death fit for a warrior is in battle.
If you want another's slave, you must challenge for her and meet your opponent with the weapon of his choice. This is also known as the claim of sword-right.
He who cannot think is not a man and neither is he who can only think.
Warriors do not kill themselves or aid others in doing so. (Suicide is not an option for a warrior.)
I had been so much a fool as to be sad. That is not the mood in which to enter battle, even the battle which one knows one cannot win, even the ultimate battle in which one knows is doomed to defeat. Do not be sad. Better to take the field with laughter, with a joke, with a light thought, with a buoyant thought, or to go forward with sternness, or in fury, or with hatred, or defiance, or calculation, but never with self pity, never with sadness. Never such things, never them!" (Vagabonds of Gor, p. 446)

5. Give 5 ways a Free woman would be eligible for the collar or collaring
- captured
- behaves like a slave
- dresses like a slave
- kneels before a man in submission with arms crossed
- calls a man Master

6.  Give 2 Laws that need to be upheld in the City of Turia.
- free women need to wear veils
- a slave is may not hit a free person, the slave will be tourtured and then impaled

7. Give 5 examples of how Citizens can break the laws in Turia.
- speak against the Home Stone or steal it
- make a map of Turia
- copy a key
- theft
- claim membership is a caste that is not theirs

8.  Explain what rights of each of the following have in a City - Give TWO (2) rights to each: free man, and a merchant.
I am so use to being asked what someone can't do that this is hard, not totally sure.
FREE MAN:
- Right to be speak at the high council meetings
- right to have their complaint heard by a magistrate

MERCHANT
They are governed by the merchant law outside the city.
- safe passage to enter the city
- may conduct their business within the walls of the city

Move to Turia

Today I am catching up with my parents and moving south to Turia. An application will be put in and I had purchased house 17B across from my parents. It is still a very big city and a few people, but it should be all right.

Class Work

((The apartment/house/townhome looking in first life is slowing down some of the things I would like to be getting done with the classes for the Telnus Blue Caste Academy. But getting things done in first life must happen... or I guess the second becomes impossible.))

Sister

Last night I met my new little sister. It is so great to have family. It sounds like father brought her home and I talked them into letting her stay with me. Then my parents found out that the place next to mine was open and decided to move in next to us. They like my place and how it has been fixed up. Mom likes the idea I had of having the high class free woman dormitory in my place, so I won't have to live alone. That part I am looking forward to. Will have to add some pictures of my family to this soon.

New Home

Last night I was allowed to have an apartment in the city of Telnus; B07. It have two stories and more windows that most. The walls are not the white like my parents apartment, they are more a cream. I hope they get the pay box set up so I can pay it.  I will have to add a few pictures to this record.

The Visit & New Job Offer in Telnus Isle

Visiting Telnus Isle.

There is a lovely map in the library by Necrella based on the works of John Norman.

=======================================

[17:15] Reno Beattie: "lets walk down to the Library, I do believe Lady Jill is in her office" ...

... [17:17] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels) looks up and smiles, rising from her chair

[17:17] Kati Evans: Greetings.

[17:17] Reno Beattie turning at the top of the stairs "Evening LAdy Jill, this is Lady Kati, the one I spoke to you of.... Kati this is our Head Scribe Lady Jill"

[17:17] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Tal Reno, Tal Lady. I am Lady Jillian, well met!

[17:18] Kati Evans: Well met Lady Jill

[17:18] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Please have a seat and we can talk. And feel free to ask any questions you may have. *motions them both to a seat*

[17:19] Reno Beattie looks to Jillian "I have not mentioned what we have spoke about... just that you both should talk"

[17:20] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels) nods and looks to Lady Kati "Well, as I mentioned to Reno, we currently have an over load of Magistrates and no other Scribe, save myself.

[17:20] Kati Evans: Oh?

[17:21] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): I do have several options within the Scribes that I would like to discuss with you, however if you have your heart set on Magistrate we can perhaps work something out.

[17:22] Kati Evans: I have been a magistrate since I became an adult. It would be very unusual to do something different.

[17:23] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): I see.

[17:23] Kati Evans: What else where you thinking of?

[17:23] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Well one of the things I had in mind would be to be an instructor in our School for apprentice Scribes and Magistrates, but I am getting the idea that that would not be of interest?

[17:24] Kati Evans: Oh, I was going to start teaching a man about being a magistrate, but before that I was going to have to teah him about being a scribe. However things changed.

[17:25] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Let me explain a bit about it, and who knows? Perhaps this might indeed be something you might have an interest in.

[17:26] Reno Beattie sits back listening to the both of them relaxing a bit

[17:27] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): When I was in Rorus, most of the scribes sat around in the bakery not doing anything. They had no interest in actually doing anything within the caste. In addition, apprentice scribes were left with no training and nothing to get the interested so they too sat in the bakery flirting.

[17:27] Kati Evans: Oh that doesn't sound good.

[17:28] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): And a few of us actually did all the work. I thought if I developed a course of study that would kind of give them the basics , as well as letting them know about the role play of a scribe and also the course of study that the GOrean Academies used - we could actually get them involved with the city, as well as involved and invested in their Caste.

[17:28] Kati Evans: To many don't have something to o with their time it causes problemms.

[17:29] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): It was 2 part - part 1 was about the city and the role play plus study guides to use in part 2. Part 2 was the actual course that most of the academies use here in SL GOR.  It was my plan to then set up a course of study for Magistrates. Full scribes who came to the city and wanted to go for Magsitrate would go through that class - apprentice scribes with an interest to be Magistrate would take both courses - does that make sense?

[17:31] Kati Evans: Oh, it does.  It all sounds interesting.

[17:32] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Now - I am looking for someone to be the instructor for both Scribe and Magistrate Courses of Study - this would be a Senior Scribe position within the Blue Caste.

[17:32] Kati Evans: Sounds easier than being a Magistrate. ... and they would be those that want to learn.

[17:34] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): The Scribe portion is done and ready to go. What I would want from the person who takes this on is to look over the Scribe Course, and set up a similar course for Magistrates. Then they would be responsible for monitoring the students, assisting them if they get stuck and when they complete the course, they would meet with me and the candidate and determine if they had passed the course. Does that make sense?

[17:36] Kati Evans: It does sound interesting ... very interesting actually.

[17:37] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): I actually thought it would be a great position for someone with a heart for helping and teaching. And it does put you in a senior position within the caste. It sounds more interesting than what I am doing now.

[17:39] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): I am really hoping to put someone in the position who will love it - I have a certificate that we will be giving out and it will be signed by both you and I. Just like the Gorean Academies do *winks*

[17:40] Reno Beattie ponders takig the class

[17:41] Kati Evans: Hum, the teacher would need to pass the course to too.

[17:41] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): I take it you never took the formal course?

[17:41] Kati Evans: Be bad if the teacher can't pass it.

[17:41] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels) laughs

[17:41] Kati Evans: I took Jan's class in pieces.

[17:41] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Here's the thing - and I will be honest with you. I never took a class. I learned on the run and by asking and speaking with other scribes.

[17:42] Kati Evans: They always kept me so bust that I might get 1,3,4, and 6 one think... and 2 & 8 the following. Never all together but in odd pieces.

[17:42] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): By setting up this course however, I put together study guides and I could pass it easily. lol

[17:43] Reno Beattie: I learned by running n owning cities.....

[17:43] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Exactly - and that is not a bad way to learn.

[17:43] Kati Evans: Well that is how I learned, doing the work.

[17:44] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Let me give you my intro to the course - it gives you a bit of my background and philosophy

[17:44] Kati Evans: Oh that would be good. Kati Evans sits looking at the document.

[17:47] Reno Beattie: very nice

[17:47] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): To be honest - I think learning as we did is actually more practical - many of the scribes I have had that finished those courses were horrible. That is why I included part 1 - to kind of draw them into the role play of the city and to help them become more invested in the work of the caste. We were all invested in what we were doing - and we learned
[17:48] Kati Evans: Class work never replaces actually work in a position.

[17:48] Kati Evans: This is true.

[17:48] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Nope

[17:49] Kati Evans: Wish my father was here to ask what to do. Reno what do you think of this idea of being a teacher?

[17:49] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): This is part of the part 1 I was telling you about (In the process of changing over from Rorus to Telnus and haven't quite finished it all up). One thing I want to emphasize is this - It is important to remember that you are a member of the Blue Caste - this is a High Caste, and as such you are expected to comport yourself with dignity. Inappropriate behavior will be dealt with by the Head of Caste. Too often I have seen scribes running around acting like slaves and I want to instill pride in our apprentices. We all want to have fun and goof around at times OOC - but ICly I really want a strong and dignified Blue Caste.

[17:52] Kati Evans: I totally understand. It is important to behave accordingly.

[17:53] Reno Beattie: agreed

[17:53] Kati Evans: My father was Ubar of Rarn. He insisted I behaved as an Ubar's daughter should and had me taught how since I was small.

[17:53] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Well, this isn't something you need to decide on the spot. If you do decide to join us here, you can decide at that time what you wish to do. I am sure we can figure it out. *smiles*

[17:54] Kati Evans: Yes, this is a lot to think about.

[17:54] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels) nods "Indeed, and I had no worries about you. I just wanted to make sure it was stressed to them that they are high caste - act like it"

[17:55] Kati Evans: Yes, that would be something I would want of those I were to teach.

[17:55] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): They would be a reflection of you, I totally agree!

[17:57] Kati Evans: Agreed.

[17:57] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): If you do decide to do this - it would be your baby. You would take it and run with it. I will sit with you and them upon their conclusion of the course. And I will make up the certificates to present to them (Unless you are a whiz at photoshop and want to take that on as well)). You would be the Scribe/Magistrate Instructor of Telnus. Senior Scribe.

[17:58] Kati Evans: Oh

[17:58] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): When I was in ROrus, I actually had a few not of Rorus study under me because they had no full scribe in their cities. It would be up to you to decide if you wanted

[17:59] Kati Evans: I thik it would be a good thing eventually. It might being bring new blood to the city. Not sure if it would be good the first class though.

[18:00] Kati Evans: As for the documents they would look better most likely if you did them.

[18:00] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Well as a new city, we are starting off slow. So there would be time. If you decide to do this - you are not alone. I am here. I am not going to throw you to the lions *grins* And when I finish up changing it over to Telnus, I will send you Part 1 and Part 2. That will give you an idea on how the Magistrate Course could go - and I will be happy to help you with that as well.

[18:03] Kati Evans: Hum... Scribe/Magistrate Instructor is a mouthful but sounds good since it would remind the students that I am a magistrate and have done what I am teaching them.

[18:03] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Exactly!

[18:03] Kati Evans: I learned to be a Magistrate by being thrown to the lions... *giggles*

[18:04] Sara Beattie (foolishgirl) entered chat range (19.28 m).

[18:04] Dallin (dallinpink) entered chat range (19.87 m).

[18:05] Kati Evans: Sure a lot to think over.

[18:05] Sara Beattie (foolishgirl): Smiles as she approaches "Tal Love, Tal Jill and Kati"

[18:05] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Well then - this will be a cake walk for you, and as I said - I am right here. I will back you 100% to get this going. Tal Lady Sara - so nice to see you.

[18:06] Kati Evans: Tal Lady Sara... dillian.

[18:06] Reno Beattie hears he foot steps behind him "tal love" and continus to listen to the coversation "tal mine"

[18:06] Dallin (dallinpink): "Greetings my Master Greetings Mistresses" making sure she didn't interupt them

[18:06] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels) wiggles her fingers "tal dallin" Well, I need to go to dinner now (afk) and I think I have given you a lot to think about *smiles*

[18:08] Kati Evans: Yes, there is a lot to considerr. May I have a day or two to get back to you on this?

[18:09] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): And that isn't your only option.

[18:09] Kati Evans: Oh?

[18:09] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Of course, you have to decide if you want to be here anyway.

[18:09] Kati Evans: Sounds like a good one though.

[18:09] Sara Beattie (foolishgirl): perks an eyebrow as she hears Kati speak and remains silent not to interrupt the conversation

[18:09] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Well no, I don't want to put you in a position that you are unhappy with.

[18:10] Kati Evans: Well I do tend to enjoy teaching others things. Sounds like this would just be in a more formal way.

[18:11] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): It would be your baby - you can manage it however you are comfortable.

[18:11] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): And if one way isn't working, you can adjust it and make it fit.

[18:12] Kati Evans: That does sound nice.

[18:12] Kati Evans: Sounds like a more interesting job than my current one.

[18:12] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): Let me finish totally switching it over to Telnus and I will pass you part 1 and part 2 - and you can look it over and tell me what you think.

[18:13] Kati Evans: Oh that would be nice to read what you have done.

[18:13] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels): I will finish it up after dinner and send it to you.

[18:13] Kati Evans: I will look forward to reading it over.

[18:15] Jillian Serevi (jillian.daniels) rises and smooths down her skirts ((really have to go now lol)) "It was a pleasure meeting you Lady. I wish you all most well!"

[18:15] Dallin (dallinpink): "well wishes to you Mistress"

[18:15] Reno Beattie: "I wish you well Lady Jillian"

[18:15] Kati Evans: Nice meeting you

Mock Trials

After the Scribe Meeting last night something was said about holding mock trials. I am not sure that I would like this.

"[20:25] Lysias Turmis (djculinaryherosct) shuckles to yankee "THat is alright. You are able to relax a bit more now" he grins then looks right "Lady Kari, I would like to start up some mock trails here. Such an act would be great entertainment for the Citizens and also be a learning experience. . perhaps even scare away some of those who would cause a real incident such as this day"
[20:25] Lysias Turmis (djculinaryherosct): *chuckles
[20:26] Lysias Turmis (djculinaryherosct): *Kati . . sorry))
[20:26] Kati Evans: Oh sorry *looks up from putting her seal on the scroll.* Yes?
[20:28] Lysias Turmis (djculinaryherosct) laughs "So such case scenarios could be created and volunteers could be had to act in a situation and hold a public trial. You would be in your post, and have Scribes like Lady Yankee or Matt, or I and so on as the Advocates until we get some added to the caste."

In the past I have not held court like they do on earth, it seems wrong to me in this culture to do so. The one time I did try; it was set up to fail and the whole thing made me look bad. The ones who told me when to hold the trial and at what time, even when I told them of the overlap in scheduled and requested a time change insisted that it be held at that time. I strongly objected and yet had to go on what the Admin and the other said. Hum, right now I am drawing a blank on who the other man was that I requested their be a change. Well when the day came and they didn't want to be at the trial because of the tournament, it was made to look like I insisted on the time and it was my fault for scheduling it then. Neither stood and said they made the mistake... it was all blamed on me. At the time the trial was to start, no one was in the court room. One woman walked in and all the others stood outside and did not enter. After ten minutes I walked out and my verdit was given. It was not the popular one, but it was based on the roleplay and not what I knew via OCC. It was had to prepare for and set up for to have it all fall away like that. I would prefer to decide things like I had in the past. But it was thought that this would be a learning experience and fun rolyplay. Three month of long days and little enjoyment of SL.... just doing my duty. SL needs to remain fun or why come in to the world.

Long Day

Today I finished another book of Gor and I started the one where a slave girl is telling us about her experience  coming to Gor from Earth. So far she is just beginning to discover what happened to her. It really helps to listen to audio books.  Makes it go faster and you can see a greater connection in the stories.

Frustrating Start - Trying Again

When I started this I did not realize two things. First, that there is a limit to the number of pages you are able to have. Second, that there are a lot of topics that I want to include here. All this to help me realize that I need to start over and trying doing this in a different way. Maybe sorting all of this by "Labels" would do the trick. ?So here we go starting again.

Clearing Space

Today I worked on the Sections of Study and cleared some space for files in my bookshelves in Abydos. I volunteered to sort and store the various applications and forms once they are filled out in my bookshelves at the house. There are four now that are empty.

Coming Home

I have been in the Village of Abydos for a few weeks now and it feels as if I have come home. It has been a long journey to find a new home with Rarn distroyed and father gone to the City of Dust. I miss him as do I miss my older brother who went traveling after the loss of his free companion and their child and has never returned. Though I will think of them often I believe that I have finally found a place I am able to call home and I am glad.

There is a lot that I would like to gather in one place and many things I hope to write about as time permits that are not to be forgotten. Notes from classes and other things gathered about this world, all worth saving and remembering.

Right now they are building the library and our living quarters. I look forward to the time when these will be finished. It has been said that our living quarters will look out to the sea and this I look forward to for I do enjoy the look of the vast expanse of the water stretching out before me.
