Dances:
There is no standardization or little standardization for the better for the worse in Gorean slave dance. Not only can the dances differ from city to city, and town to town, and even from tavern to tavern, but they are likely to differ, too even from girl to girl. This is because each girl, in her own way, brings the nature of her own body, her own dispositions, her own sensuality and needs, her own personality. to the dance. For the woman, slaves dance is a uniquely personal and creative art form. Too, of course if provides her with a wondrous modality for deeply intimate self-expression. Guardsman of Gor pg 260

Wrists are placed behind her, in the adjustable wrists clamps, each on their vertical flat metal bar, which are screwed shut. Feet are shackled on a rotating metal platform. The branding rack rotates bringing the site be branded into view unencumbered. Explorers of Gor pg. 71

Fetters (slave bracelets of Torvaldsland): consist of curved, hinged bands of black iron, three quarters of an inch in width and a quarter inch in thickness. On one of each of the two curved pieces consituting a bracelet there is a welded ring; the two welded rings are joined by a single link, about an inch in width, counting both sides, each of which is about a quarter of an inch in diameter, and three inches long. Marauders of Gor pg 46
Four Chains: wrists are joined by about eighteen inches of chain and similarly for the ankles. Further each wrist is chained to the ankle. This arrangement, produces the "four chains." Captive of Gor Page 42
Gag: a device secured in place with by a broad mouth covering strap, with three smaller straps attached to it, one to secure the broad strap at the upper lip, another to secure it across the mouth, pulling it back between the teeth, and one to secure it at the chin. These straps are then pulled back tightly and fastened; the top strap above the ears, behind the back of the head, to the lower straps behind the back of the head. The heavy rolled leather wadding that is thrust back behind the teeth with the broad mouth covering strap, by design, expands thus securing it in place, packing the entire oral orifice. Dancer of Gor pg. 271

Mercenaries of Gor pg 75
Iron Belt: This belt consisted of two major pieces; one was a rounded, fitted, curved bar like waistband, flattened at the ends; one end of this band, that on the right, standing behind the woman and looking forward, had a heavy semicircular ring, or staple, welded onto it; the other flattened end of the waistband, looking forward, had a slot in it which fitted over the staple; the other major portion of this belt consisted of a curved band of flat, shaped iron' one end of this flat band was curved about, and closed about, the bar like waistband in the front; this produces a hinge; the flat, U-shaped strap of the iron swings on this hinge; on the other end of this flat band of the iron is a slot; it fits over the same staple as the slot in the flattened end of the left side of the bar like waistband. The belt is then put in the woman in this fashion. The waistband is closed about her, the left side, its slot penetrated by the staple, over the right side; the flat U-shaped band of iron, contoured to female intimacies, is then swung up on its hinge between her thighs, where the slot on its end is penetrated by the staple, this keeping the part of the belt in place. The whole apparatus is then locked on her, the tongue of a padlock thrust through the staple, the lock then snapped shut.   Kajira of Gor pg 103

Slave Goad: Rather like the tarn goad, except that it is designed to be used as an instrument for the control of human beings rather than tarns….Unlike the tarn goad which has a simple on-off switch in the handle, the slave goad works with both a switch and a dial, and the intensity of the charge administered can be varied from an infliction which is only distinctly unpleasant to one which is instantly lethal. The slave goad, unknown in most Gorean cities, is almost never used except by professional slavers, probably because of the great expense involved.   Assassins of Gor Pg 85
Slave Hobble: Consists of two rings, one for a wrist, the other for ankle, joined by about seven inches of chain. In a right handed girl, it locks on the right wrist and left ankle. Stimulation Cage: an ornately barred, low ceiling cage, about five feet high, rather roomy. The girl in the stimulation cage is not permitted to look into the eyes of a male, not even a male slave. This is designed to make her extremely conscience of males. Accouterments include: brushes, perfumes, cosmetics, slave jewelry, heavy necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and bangles. There is no clothing. There are cushions, bowls of copper, and lamps of brass. There are surfaces of varying textures: deep piled rug, satins, silk, coarsely woven cloths, brocades, rep cloth, a tiled corner, sleen pelt, cloths woven of strung beads, cloaks of leather and mats of reed. The point is to bring the senses to life. Tribesmen of Gor pg. 24

Passion Slave - "female of the human kind, but bred like a beast for it's beauty and it's passion. It is an animal, bred for the pleasure of men, bred for the pleasure of a master." Priest-Kings of Gor pg 73
Bondage is a condition in which imagination and inventiveness in a slave are highly appropriate.  Vagabonds of Gor pg 35
Kneeling Distance:
It is customary in the kneeling position to remain back a few feet from the male. The kneeling position, itself, expresses the servitude of the slave, and her submission. The distance serves three major purposes. (1) It symbolizes in the distance, as well as in the differential in height, the social inferiority of the slave to the master. (2) It puts the slave in a position where all of her, for the master's delight, can be seen. A kneeling woman is incredibly beautiful. (3) It also puts enough space between the slave and the free male so that the releasing of his rapacity is then likely to require a decision, and is less likely to be simply, reflexively, triggered. This regarded as being particularly important when the slave is in the presence of a male who is not her master. The kneeling position, thus, interestingly, can occasionally provide a measure of security, if somewhat a tenuous one, for the slave, tending to reduce to some extend the frequency with which, in a culture with such interpersonal proximity’s, she might otherwise be subjected to unauthorized rape. This same tiny measure of protection, of course, puts her in much greater danger from her real master, for he, observing her, seeing her kneeling beautifully before him, can also delay in his considerations as to her suitable exploitation’s.....The main reason a slave kneels, of course, aside from such subtle and complex considerations, is simply that she is a slave, and that the position, accordingly, is appropriate for her.  Dancer of Gor pg 156 - 157
"The Gorean slave girl, incidentally, will space herself from her master quite differently in different situations. For example, if she is somewhat farther away, it is easier for her to display herself in all her beauty; if she wishes to wheedle for his caress she may approach quite closely; if she is receiving instructions she may kneel a few feet away; if she is begging to serve his pleasure she may kneel at his feet, perhaps kissing them. She who fears she is to be disciplined will commonly hang back; sometimes too, a girl will fear to approach too closely until the master, by an expression or small sign, indicates that she is not in obvious disfavor and may do so."    Explorers of Gor pg 201

Bara/Belly    Explorers of Gor pg 77      Mercenaries of Gor pg 19
"Bara," said Mincon to Tula. "Bara," said I to Feiqa. Both slaves went immediately to their bellies, their heads to the left, their wrists crossed behind their backs, their ankles also crossed. It is a common binding position. Mercenaries of Gor pg 145
Blanket     Explorers of Gor pg 94
"I then threw the second blanket, the top blanket over her, covering her completely. When a blanket, or cloak, or covering of any sort, is thrown over a slave like this she may not speak or rise. She must remain as she is, silent, until the master , or some free man, lifts the covering away."
Bracelets/Chaining   Hunters of Gor pg 146
"Bracelets,' he snapped. She put her head in the air and placed her hands behind her back."
Capture Position    Kajira of Gor pg 422
"On your back," he said, "knees raised, heels on the floor." I then lay before him, in a standard, supine capture position."
Collaring/Female Submission    Hunters of Gor pg 16      Explorers of Gor pg 74

"I held my left hand open, at my waist. She stiffened, and looked at me, angrily. I opened and closed my left hand once. I saw her training in Gorean customs had been thorough. But she never thought that such a gesture would be used to her. She came beside me, and a bit behind me, and, crouching, put her head down, deeply. I fastened my hand in her hair. She winced. Women are helpless in this position."

I fled to him and knelt before him, my knees in the dirt, in the position of the pleasure slave, my head down, trembling." Captive of Gor pg 143
Heel Position       Marauders of Gor pg 123      Slave Girl of Gor pg 109     Magicians of Gor pg 117
"These things vary, I learned from city to city, and depend, also, on such matters as context and conditions. In a market, in the crowding and jostling for instance, a girl may follow so closely she pressed against the back of his left shoulder. Girls seldom follow behind and on the right. If she is thusly placed it is commonly a sign she is in disfavor. If more than one girl is involved, she who follows most closely on the left is generally taken to be in highest favor; girls compete for this position. In an open area, such a the fields in which we trekked, the girl is placed some five or ten feet behind, and on the left. If he must move suddenly she will not, thusly, constitute an impediment to his action."  Slave Girl of Gor pg 30
High-Harness Position       Mercenaries of Gor pg 308 - 309
"Lift your head, " he said. "Higher. Higher!" She looked up at him, her head far back, the leash on her throat.... "You need not now keep your head in high-harness position,", he said to the girl. She moved her head."
Kneel to the Coffle     Slave Girl of Gor pg 127
"Kneel to be coffled," said one of the men. The girls knelt, closely, one behind the other, there were six wrist rings on the chain he carried. He placed the girl who had been whipped by Lady Sabina first in the coffle line. "Left wrist coffle," he said. They lifted their left wrists, frightened. Interestingly, the man snapping the wrist rings on the girls’ left wrists did not put the first girl in the first ring, but the second. When the four maids were coffled there was, thus, an empty wrist ring both at the head and rear of the line. "Stand, Slaves," said the man. "Lower chain." The girls stood. Then, ordered, the lowered their wrists. They were then in line, standing, coffled."
Kneel to the Whip    Captive of Gor pg 200
"Piteously she knelt, a slave girl. Her wrists were crossed under her, as though bound, her head was to the floor, the bow of her back was exposed."    Marauders of Gor pg 13

Love Bow    Marauders of Gor pg 261
"He then threw her, on her back, over the body, head down, of the fallen Kur. He took the two loose ends of the binding fiber and, taking them under he body of the fallen Kur, dragged her wrists, elbows bent, over and above her head; he then, bending her knees, tied one of the loose ends about her left ankle, and the other about her right."

"Come now, my pretty slaves,' said Ginger, 'kneel straight. Back straight, heads up. Back on your heels there! Spread those pretty knees. Yes, that is the way men like it. Put your hands, palms down, on your thighs. Good. good. Excellent!' The girls now knelt in the coffle as pleasure slaves." Savages of Gor pg 155
Nestle Position   Explorer's of Gor pg 279
"Nestle," I told her. "Yes, Master," she said. She nestled obediently in the crook of my left arm."
Obeisance     Rogue of Gor pg 299
"There are many ways to perform obeisance." I said. "I am a free woman," she said, " I know none of them." "I shall instruct you briefly in three," I said. " First kneel before me , back on your heels, yes, with your knees wide, wider, your hands on your thighs, your back straight, your breasts out, good, your belly in, good, and now lower your head in deference, in submission." "Now that," I said, " may not be exactly a form of obeisance, for authorities do not all agree, but for our purposes we shall count it as one. It is, at any rate, a beautiful position, and it is, certainly, a common position of slave submission."
"Now" I said, " and this is clearly a form of obeisance, bend forward and put your head to the mat, the palms of your hands on the mat. Good. Now lift your head little and come forward, substantially keeping the position. Forward a little more." "But then my face will be at your feet," she said," My lips will be over them!" "Yes," I said, "Good, now, put your head down and lick and kiss my feet." "I am a free Woman!" She Said. "You are a woman," I said," now softly lingeringly, and lovingly, Good." "I am not a slave," she said "All women are slaves, "I said " Imagine what this would be like if you were truly a collared slave." She gasped.
"Now" I said, "for a third form of obeisance. You may belly to me." "I do not understand," she whispered. "There are various forms of bellying, " I said, and bellying may be suitably and pleasingly combined with other forms of floor movements, approaching the Master on all fours, turning to your sides and back, writhing before him, and so on. We will take a very simple variation, suitable for an ignorant free female who has not yet even begun to discover the depths of her sexuality." She looked up at me. "On your belly," I said. She backed off a bit , and went to her belly. her hair was before her face, as she now on her belly before me looked up at me. "Now inch forward," I said, " remaining low on your belly, and when you reach my feet, once again, as before, lifting your head a little, tenderly and humbly, and beautifully, as though you were a slave, lick and kiss them. Good. Good. Now take my foot and place it gently on your head. Very good. Now place it again on the Mat, and kiss it again. Good. You may now belly back a little, humbly. I have not yet given you permission to rise of course." Mercenaries of Gor pg 409 - 410
Prostrate    Kajira of Gor pg 305
"I knelt before the guest, putting the palms of my hands on the floor and my head to the tiles."
Run    Assassins of Gor pg 45
"….I was amused, for she had run as a slave girl is sometimes taught to run, with rapid short steps, her legs almost straight, head turned to the left, arms at her sides, palms out at a forty-five degree angle, more of a dancer’s motion than a true run."
She Sleen/She-Quadruped    Guardsman of Gor pg 225
"In this discipline the female is forbidden human speech. She is also forbidden human posture, in the sense that she is not allowed to rise to her feet. Her locomotion, unless commanded to roll, or put under similar commands, suitable for a pet, will be on all fours. Her food will be thrown to her, or put in pans on the ground. In either case, she must feed without the use of her hands. She may also, of course, be fed by hand, but, again, will not be permitted to touch the food with her hands. She may be taught tricks. Sometimes these are taught as functions of arbitrary sounds, so that she must learn them as any animal might, without the benefit of an earlier understanding of the word used. If she is slow to learn, of course, she is punished, as would be any other animal. When used, too, it will commonly be in the modality of the she-quadrupled. This discipline is often used as a punishment, but it may figure in the training of a new girl. It helps her to understand what she now is, an animal totally subject to her master."   Mercenaries of Gor pg 215 - 216
Slave Lips      Kajira of Gor pg 224
"Similarly, I was not required to respond to certain sorts of commands, for example, to make "slave lips," pursing my lips for kissing, or to writhe slowly before my viewers."
Slave Rape     Explorers of Gor pg 202
"I went to the side of the room and picked up my sea bag. I threw it to the center of the room. She looked down at it puzzled. It was of heavy blue material, canvas, and tied with a white rope. "Lie down upon it," I told her, "on your back, your head to the floor." She did so. "No, please," she said, "not like this." It is a common position for a disciplinary slave rape. In it the woman feels very vulnerable, very helpless. I then took her."
Slavers Caress/Whip Caress      Assassin of Gor pg 294
"Then, before I could realize what he intended, he had subjected Miss Cardwell to what, among slavers, is known as the Whip Caress. Ideally it is done, as Kamchak had, unexpectedly, taking the girl unawares. Elizabeth suddenly cried out throwing her head to one side. I observed to my amazement the sudden, involuntary, uncontrollable response to the touch. The Whip Caress is commonly used among Slavers to force a girl to betray herself."   Nomads of Gor pg 168
Sula        Explorers of Gor pg 77
"Sula, Kajira!' said the man. She slid her legs from under her and lay on her back, her hands at her sides, palms up, legs open."
Tower Slave Position    Priest-Kings of Gor pg 46
"The position of the Tower Slave, in which Vika knelt, differs from that of a free woman only in the position of the wrists which are held before her and, when not occupied, crossed as though for binding...The position of the Pleasure Slave, incidentally, differs from the position of both the free woman and the Tower Slave. The hands of a Pleasure Slave normally rest on her thighs but, in some cities, for example, Thentis, I believe, they are crossed behind her. More significantly, for the free woman's hands may also rest on her thighs, there is a difference in the placement of the knees. In all these kneeling positions, incidentally, even that of the Pleasure Slave, the Gorean woman carries herself well; her back is straight and her chin is high. She tends to be vital and beautiful to look upon."
Turian Knee Walk (mentioned but no description)    Vagabonds of Gor pg 35
Usage Position    Kajira of Gor pg 434
"He knelt me there. "Put your head down, to the floor," he said. "Clasp your hands, firmly, behind the back of your neck." "Yes, Master," I moaned. He was then behind me. He put his hands, under my arms, on my breasts, sweetly and firmly. Then he moved his bands back, caressing my flanks. My head was down. My fingers were together, behind the back of my neck. I was in his collar. It was steel, I could not remove it. I belonged to him. My body hurt, from his whip, that of my master. My head hurt, from my hair, where I had been conducted, unceremoniously, to this location. "Please, Master," I sobbed. "Not like this! Not you, please!" "The slave is pretty," he remarked. "Oh!" I cried. "Oh!" "You have a lovely ass," he said. "Ohhh!" I said. "You may thank me," he said."

Brands
Purpose
When an individual captures a girl for his own uses, he does not always mark her, though it is commonly done. On the other hand, the professional slaver, as a business practice, almost always brands his chattels, and it is seldom that an unbranded girl ascends the block.
The brand is to be distinguished from the collar, though both are designation of slavery. The primary significance of the collar is that it identifies the master and his city. The collar of a given girl may be changed countless times, but the brand continues throughout to bespeak her status.
Outlaw of Gor, page 189
"I have five brands," said the metal worker, "the common Kajira brand, the Dina, the Palm, the mark of Treve, the mark of Port Kar."
Explorers of Gor, page 70
Eta smiled. She pointed to her brand. "Kan-lara," she said. She pointed to my brand. "Kan-lara Dina," she said. I repeated these words.

Bond-maid Brand

"The brand used by the Forkbeard, found rather frequently in the north, consisted of a half circle, with, at its right tip, adjoining it, a steep, diagonal line. The half circle is about an inch and a quarter in width, and the diagonal line about an inch and a quarter in height. The brand is, like many, asymbolic. In the north, the bond-maid is sometimes referred to as a woman whose belly lies beneath the sword."
Marauders of Gor, page 87

Dina

"my own brand was the "dina"; the dina is a small lovely, multiply petaled flower, short-stemmed, and blooming in a turf of green leaves, usually on the slopes of hills, in the northern temperate zones of Gor; it is and exotic, alien flower; it is also spoken of, in the north, where it grows most frequently, as the slave flower; it was burned into my flesh"
Slave Girl of Gor, page 61

Kassar

"The standard of the Kassars is that of a scarlet, three-weighted bola, which hands from a lance; the symbolic representation of a bola, three circles joined at the center by lines, is used to mark both their bosk and slaves."
Nomads of Gor, page 106

Kataii

"..the standard of the Kataii is a yellow bow, bound across a black lance; their brand is also that of a bow, facing to the left.."
Nomads of Gor, page 106

Kef

I had now been branded, a small, graceful mark burned into my left thigh, high, under the hip. It had a vertical bar, a rather strict one, with two curling, frondlike extensions, rather near its base, as though in submission to it. It looked a little like a 'K.'
Magicians of Gor, page 67

Knife

"From the box he then took a small, curved knife and a tiny, cylindrical leather flask. I gritted my teeth, but made no sound. With the small knife he gashed my left thigh, making upon it a small, strange design. He then took a powder, orange in color, from the flask and rubbed it into the wound."
Explorers of Gor, page 330

Paravaci

"the Paravaci standard is a large banner of jewels beaded on golden wires, forming the head and horns of a bosk its value is incalculable; the Paravaci brand is a symbolic representation of a bosk hed, a semicircle resting on an inverted isoceles triangle".
Nomads of Gor, page 106

Passage

"The street was lined by throngs of Tuchuks and slaves. Among them, too, were soothsayers and haruspexes, and singers and musicians, and, here and there, small peddlers and merchants, of various cities, for such are occasionally permitted by the Tuchuks, who crave their wares, to approach the wagons. Each of these, I was later to learn, wore on his forearm a tiny band, in the form of spreading bosk horns, which guaranteed his passage, at certain seasons, across the plains of the Wagon Peoples. The difficulty, of course, is in first obtaining the brand. If, in the case of a singer, the song is rejected, or in the case of a merchant, his merchandise is rejected, he is slain out of hand. This acceptance brand, of course, carries with it a certain stain of ignominy, suggesting that those who approach the wagons do so as slaves."
Nomads of Gor, page 34

Penalty

"I looked at her, puzzled.
"Penalty brands," she said. "They are tiny, but clearly visible. There are various such brands. There is one for lying, and another for stealing."
Captive of Gor, page 277
"Four men held me, naked, near the brazier. I could feel the heat blazing from the canister. The sky was very blue, the clouds were white.
“Please, no!” I wept.
I saw Rask, with a heave glove, draw forth one of the irons from the fire. It reminated in a tiny letter, not more that a quarter of an inch high. The letter was white hot. “This is a penalty brand,” he said. “It marks you as a liar.”
“Please, Master!” I wept.
“I no longer have patience with you,” he said. “Be marked as what you are.”
I screamed uncontrollably as he pressed in the iron, holding it firmly into my leg. Then, after some two to four Ihn, he removed it. I could not stop screaming with pain. I smelled the odor of burned flesh, my own. I began to whimper. I could not breathe. I gasped for breath. Still the men held me.
“This penalty brand,” said Rask of Treve, lifting another iron from the brazier, again with a tiny letter at its glowing termination, “marks you also as what you are, as a thief.”
“Please, no, Master!” I wept.
I could not move a muscle of my left leg. It might as well have been locked in a vise. It must wait for the iron.
I screamed again, uncontrollably. I had been branded as a thief.
“This third iron,” said Rask of Treve, “is, too, a penalty iron. I mark you with this not for myself, but for Ute.”
Through raging tears I saw, white hot, the tiny letter.
“It marks you as a traitress,” said Rask of Treve. He looked at me, with fury. 'Be marked as a traitress,' he said. Then he pressed the third iron into my flesh. As it entered my flesh, biting and searing, I saw Ute watching, her face betraying no emotion. I screamed, and wept, and screamed.
Still the men did not release me.
Rask of Treve lifted the last iron from the fire. It was much larger, the letter at its termination some one and a half inches high. It, too, was white hot. I knew the brand. I had seen it on Ena's thigh. It was the mark of Treve. Rask of Treve decided that my flesh should bear that mark.
“No, Master, please!” I begged him.
“Yes, Worthless Slave,” he said, “you will wear in your flesh the mark of the city of Treve.”
“Please,” I begged.
“When men ask you,” said he, “who it was that marked you as a liar and a thief, and traitress, point to this brand, and say, I was marked by one of Treve, who was displeased with me.”
Captive of Gor, page 310~

Thief's

"The theif's scar in Port Kar is a tiny, three-pronged brand, burned into the face over the right cheekbone. It marks the members of the Cast of Thieves in Port Kar. That is the only city in which, as far as I know, there is a recognized caste for theives."
Mercenaries of Gor, page 239
Trevian
"I have never seen a brand of Treve," I said.
"It is rare," said Ena, proudly.
"May I see your brand?" I asked. I was curious.
"Of course," said Ena, and she stood up and, extending her left leg, drew her long, lovely white garment to her hip, revealing her limb.
I gasped.
Incised deeply, precisely, in that slim, lovely, now-bared thigh was a startling mark, beautiful, insolent, dramatically marking that beautiful thigh as that which it now could only be, that of a female slave.
"It is beautiful," I whispered.
Ena pulled away the clasp at the left shoulder of her garment, dropping it to her ankles.
She was incredibly beautiful.
"Can you read?" she asked.
"No," I said.
She regarded the brand. "It is the first letter, in cursive script," she said, "of the name of the city of Treve."
Captive of Gor, page 277

Tuchuk

"the brand of the Tuchuk slave, incidentally, is not the same as that generally used in the cities, which, for girls, is the first letter of the expression Kajira in cursive script, but the sign of the four bosk horns, that of the Tuchuk standard; the brand of the four bosk horns, set in such a manner as to somewhat resemble the letter 'H', is only about an inch high; the common Gorean brand, on the other hand, is usually an inch and a half to two inches high"
Nomads of Gor, page 62

Branding Rack

The girl was brought into the shop and stood in the branding rack, which was then locked on her, holding her upright. The metal worker placed her wrists behind her in the wrist clamps, adjustable, each on their vertical, flat metal bar. He screwed shut the clamps. She winced. He then shackled her feet on the rotating metal platform. "Left thigh or right thigh?" he asked. "Left thigh," said Ulafi. Slave girls are commonly branded on the left thigh. Sometimes they are branded on the right thigh, or lower left abdomen. The metal worker turned the apparatus, spinning the shaft, with its attached, circular metal platform. The girl's left thigh now faced us. It was an excellent thigh. It would take the mark well. The metal worker then, with a whell, tightening it, locked the device in place, so that it could not turn.

Free Companionship and Other Ceremonies

Free Companionship and Other Ceremonies

There following are some ceremonies that are used within a city.

"AND" Ceremony
This ceremony is done between two people, Rarius usually. The more experienced or knowledgeable one usually does the asking. (Before asking in public it is best to discuss this privately) Taking a blade and making a Honor cut on your forarm, the one you are bonding with does similar. Grasping one another's forearms allowing the blood to mingle, you state an oath.
This is an example of the oath:
"My blood and yours mingle to be one
My Honor and Your Honor become one
My foes and Your foes become one
From this day forward know that you will always have
...a sword to guard your back
...a Brother to turn to when in need
...no matter what the need or circumstances
Till the City of Dust claims us
This is my vow and oath to you."

Branding Ceremony
The Master secures the slave in the branding rack (shaped rather like an X-shaped table, with either snap-bracelets (manacles) for her wrists and ankles at the ends of the X, or metal rings set into the wood so her wrists and ankles might be secured with binding fiber. A removable vise-like clamp fitted with spinning twist handles to adjust the tension can be attached to the left leg platform, to hold the slave's left thigh motionless during the actual branding. The Master holds up the heated branding iron, white hot, for the slave to see and says, "You will soon be branded, girl." When the brand is ready, he holds it above her left thigh and says, "You are now to be branded, slave girl." He then brands the slave, pressing it firmly into her skin for five full Ihn (seconds), then swiftly and cleanly removes it. He examines the mark closely, hoping that it was clean and deep enough to create an excellent brand. It is common Gorean practice to allow the slave the luxury of screaming, since it is in effect her final act as a free person. Sometimes assistants are standing by with small vials of oil and salve, which they then dab onto the brand to reduce the chance of infection and promote faster healing. The Master then frees the slave from the rack.

Colaring Ceremony
Slaves assumes the submission position, (kneeling in front of the Free, arms extended, wrists crossed, head falling between arms leaving the neck bare). Slave then repeats the following after the Free. Here is an example and can be changed by the Free.

I once [insert name] herewith submit myself, completely and totally, in all times to him who is known as [position in city and city name] to be his girl, his slave, an article of his property, his to do with as he pleases.

Then the Free puts on the colar and then the slave can be named if the Free desides to do so.

Disownment Ceremony
A parent, who is of same Caste places His/Her hand on the hilt of his sword or symbol of Their Caste, the other hand is placed on the symbol of the city or homestone of the family and says the words, "This person is disowned and no longer a member of our family or caste." The person named is then without family or caste.

Free Companion Ceremony
For a Free Woman, realize that you are now under you Free Companion. You have entrusted him to now protect you. He will take care of you. But you also lose some of the freedom you have acquired, as he is your Free Companion. His word does become your law. A Free Companion can be chained to the end of the bed, usually the Free Women is the one chained there. When you have found the one you feel you want to Free Companion with, there is normally an announcement made, in the room, that you are commencing to court. During that time, really get to know your partner. There is no set time limit for courting, as it is between the two of you. When you both decide this is what you want, then go to the bride-to-be's Father, brother or Ubar/Jarl and he will set a bride price that must be fulfilled, when this is done you will announce a date for the ceremony. Below is a example of the contract, which may be changed.

Funeral Ceremony
The common ceremony of a warrior is one where a pyre is built by his friends and caste members of ka-la-na wood, which are trimmed and squared. The pyre takes the form of a structured, tiered, truncated pyramid. Free women then carry jars of perfumed oils and sprinkle it on the pyre. The body of the Warrior is borne on the shoulders of 4 Warriors, on crossed spears, lashed together. The body is wrapped in scarlet leather. The funeral prosession follows, they do not chant, or sing, or carry the boughs of ka-la0na nor play an musical instrument. At such times Goreans do not sing or speak, they are silent, for at such times words mean nothing, and would demean or insult. For Goreans there is only silence, memory and fire. A family member or one who was close to the person lights the pyre.

Swearing of Oaths (Coming of Age)
When coming of age young men and women participate in a ceremony which involves the swearing of oaths, sharing of bread, fir and salt. The Homestone is held of each young person and is kissed. Only then are the laurel wreaths and the mantle of citizenship conferred. They must also pass certain examinations. In most cities the young must be vouched for by the citizens of the city which are not blood related to them and be questioned before a committee of citizens. The intent is to determine worthiness or lack of to take the Homestone of the city as their own.
