Pilgrimage to The Sardar - April 6 - 7

Reminder, the Initiates may knock on your door if anyone in your household has not made this pilgrimage trip before age 25

If there are further questions, please direct them to one of our Initiates, although we have tried to use the information they already provided to help you get ready/

Do not bring misfortune on us all by neglecting this solemn duty, but DO bring your slaves. Although the beasts can't participate in the services, that doesn't mean you should be uncomfortable and who knows, if bandits attack along the journey, they might settle for a slave and leave the free alone.

April 6 (Sat) at Noon

Meet at the Temple where Pilgrims will receive a Pilgrim badge, a Pilgrim book to record their experiences, and an anointing to purify and dedicate them for the journey, plus a gold piece.
   
The  Initiates will lead us on the actual journey, which should land everyone on April 7th at the Sardar

 Pilgrim will walk the path to the hostel ( hotel )  at the top of the path, have dinner there, and hear a discussion about the Pilgrimage. You are encourage to obtain items you need from the Emporium. Let's just hope it doesn't cost that whole gold piece you were just given.
 
 Apri 7 (Sun) at 1 pm

First up is a purification bath -- no, not unisex.
The Initiates will sacrifice a white bosk to ask the Priest Kings to bless the Pilgrimage.
Then, the Initiates will direct each of you to climb the platform and give your personal offering. Not sure what to offer? The Initiates thought of everything, as you can buy that at the Emporium too, or you could offer something more personal. Then after everyone has given an offering and a prayer, in your own words, its time to have a community dinner and have entertainment, from whoever wishes to provide it.

 Hopefully, your prayers and sacrifice will be enough to guarantee your safety on the return trip. Those Priest Kings have mysterious ways.

Citizens of Svago we started a new year here in Svago and as I am quickly learning the only true constant in Svago is change.  Some changes are personal, some are public and yet others to the very lay of the land. But I believe change is what makes Svago truly a great place.

We have had many proud changes at this last High Council meeting.  No more proud a father could there be than when a man is able to see his own son answer the call to step forward and shoulder the burden of being named a Head of Caste. Congratulations Nail Carver on your naming to Head of Caste Scribe.

Did I say burden.. Yes I did, each Head of Caste and Assistant Head of Caste must work hard to not only obtain the position but continue to work hard to keep it.  Without the hard work of each of them it would be impossible to manage Svago.  From the Initiates to the Merchants each are vital and important to the success of the High Council and Svago.

Many may of noticed a change of a new metal workers shop larger and more able has been placed near the shipyard to help meet the demands of our Citizens.  More changes are coming, I have heard rumbling over the Tavern and some changes have already been put in place by the builders.  A small committee has been formed to provide guidance on its future look and location.

I had two letters to the editor, and I should share them with you. Both show intense interest in our lovely home.

Dear Svago
Since landing on the island of Svago, I've had a lot of new experiences. I've met some old friends, made many new ones. I've had a brilliant time. I have done some things for Kajiraulia, winning the Boat race was amazing! I think I am happier here than anywhere else I've ever been. I have made a few personal changes also. As many of you know I used to walk around with my hair uncovered. That has changed, I now walk around with my hair covered. I am loving the shift into becoming more Southern and this is all thanks to the Wonderful people I work with as a scribe. The friends I have made. My Heads of Caste. Basically my Svago family.

I am not leaving Svago anytime soon. I am just finally happy here. Happy with all you guys and everything. Even if I find someone to Companion me, He'll have to come here. I am not going to him! Basically, Svago Y'all are stuck with me. Whether you like it or not.

[13:00] William Carver: “Welcome to the meeting of the High Council of Svago.  Please find your seats and I will remind the public in attendance to maintain order during the meeting.  Only Warriors of Svago are to carry weapons into the Council Chamber, if you are so armed you may take this time to put your weapons in the weapon rack down stairs.”  Council Members I call this meeting to order, let us take up the business of Svago.  ”

[13:00] Nephtides na Neidos (nephtides) whispers: *unleashes Pearl, and wooshes Mias hair* Stay here, Pearl.. Mia, meet my newest chain slave, Pearl. She's barbarian *smiles*

[13:00] Nephtides na Neidos (nephtides) whispers: wait here for me, mine

[13:01] Mia (vampja) makes a gesture of welcome to Pearl, patting the floor next to her and drawing her finger to her lips as if asking her not to speak at all.

[13:01] Pearl (yakumo2yukari) sank to her knees andn odded remaining silent. Wondering what was happening but learned to not ask

[13:02] Marekai settles into his chair and nods greetings all round.

[13:02] Elysia Turia Ambrosius (spiritsandwine): Quickly switched postions. Jos gave her the stare. And so she sat- next to her companion- "Aetius. " She inclined her head, and glanced over to mother. "I've got no notes, with me this day, besides the brief of tharna. The rest is all you.." She smiled.

[13:02] Nephtides na Neidos (nephtides): *Takes his usual guarding position after checking the hallways, and leans against the wall by the stairs attentively*

[13:02] Joslyn Bernard (sophie.lacquey) nodded as she rolled out a piece of parchment and hidden quill, writing down something with what might be described as last minute.

[13:03] William Carver: I would glance at my notes and started speaking in a clear tone of High Gorean  " First item up is the naming of a head of Caste of the Scribes“ I glanced over to Niall and Jamie as I continued to speak " It is my understanding that by a general acclaim of the Scribes that Niall Carver has been nominated to be placed before this council as their Head of Caste.  I call now for a vote to accept and seat him as the Head of Caste Scribes. “  I then looked to Terek and said " What say the Initiates "

[13:03] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): Initiates say aye and Congratulations!

[13:04] William Carver: " Jamie what say you for the Scribes?"

[13:04] Jamie Al'Azraq (slainjg) smiled, "Scribes say yes".

[13:05] William Carver: " Builders what say you?"

[13:05] ℒαδყ Nicα Rαɠńivαrđ Sjöström (melisandramelodi) beams and nods and nods as she looks at her cousin with pride, he is a bookish, smarty pants, so she was glad he got promoted, it seemed fitting, and leans in to say, near Niall, with a twinkle in her eyes, "I say Aye" then turns to her father, "Yes, Father?"

[13:05] William Carver: " Physicians what is your vote?"  I asked

[13:06] Jarius Bernard (jariusorin): I grin as I look to Niall and I say 'The physicians vote a strong yes.'

[13:06] William Carver: " Warriors what say you?"  I asked

[13:06] Pчяиιя Alα'Bαиdιт (lextonian.snowpaw) he would look over to Niall. If the lad was anything like his father he would grin approvingly. "Warriors Approve."

[13:06] Elysia Turia Ambrosius (spiritsandwine): Smiled over to Niall

[13:07]  Alaricus Evander Ambrosius (alstott) listens to the proceeding while keeping a watchful eye on those entering and those in the seating area.

[13:07] William Carver: " It is my please to announce that Niall Carver is by will of the High Council of Svago seated as the Head of Caste Scribes, Congratulations Niall "  I would say, pride was clear in Williams voice and it took some doing to stay put

[13:07] Joslyn Bernard (sophie.lacquey) dipped her head over to Niall, lips curving curving upwards into a smile.

[13:07] Trentan Hayford (trentanhayford) claps his shoulder whole heartedly.

[13:07] Nikki Lordes (alwaysnikki): Nikki is thrilled and cant help but applaud for both her caste and her son "congratulations Niall"

[13:08] Niall Carver (bastnine) would do his best to keep his usual solemnity in this, but the corner of his mouth puled a little as he'd accept," I thank you all and will do all I can to prove myself worthy of this post each day."

[13:10] Malice notice Joslyn switch seats, he sniffed towards his underarm, then noticed why the swap was made. he just mumbled and focused back on the meeting.

[13:10] William Carver: I would look to the paper before me and then gazed at Terek and spoke now  “ I want to extend our thanks to Terek and the rest of the Caste of Initiates for all the hard work they have done prior to and through the Waiting Hand to see that the Priest Kings will grant their favor to our beloved Svago.”  I would incline my head in respect to Terek

[13:11] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente) responds "Thank you, Administrator."

[13:13] William Carver: I did not need to look at the paper now as I turned to look at Jarius " Some of you may of noticed our beloved Lady Dominio is not with us.  That is because she just recently gave birth to a set of twins one boy and one girl, we offer our congratulations to Jarius and his Lady on this proud day! "

[13:14] Trentan Hayford (trentanhayford) claps his shoulder again, always good news.

[13:14] Joslyn Bernard (sophie.lacquey) grinned over to William, then her own brother, dipping her head to him in turn in silent congratulations.

[13:15] Niall Carver (bastnine) looked over to Jarius, calling,"Congratulations!"

[13:15] Aetius Rufus Vita (igor.rechkalov) clapped his shoulder, "Congratulations."

[13:15] Elysia Turia Ambrosius (spiritsandwine): Smiled over, suprised to hear double the joyous news.

[13:16] Malice turned his head towards the bleachers and made note of those there, or perhaps more of who was not there, turning back towards the council.

[13:18] Nikias Sjöström (stevesteven): Leaned in "aye, Svago has been blessed with births lately" he whispered back happy for those new parents

[13:18] William Carver: I turned my gaze futher down the table to Pyrnir " And most recently the Commander and his Lady Ash has given birth to a new son, another fine Warriors added to the ranks "  I gave a glance at Nikki and gave her one of this grins a bit " Seems the Physicians and Warriors are doing their part.. Scribes and Builders are you ready to answer the call?"

[13:19] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): chuckles

[13:19] Jarius Bernard (jariusorin): I chuckle.

[13:19] Pчяиιя Alα'Bαиdιт (lextonian.snowpaw) smirks looking at Niall, thinking the lad would be a good match for his daughter.

[13:19] Niall Carver (bastnine) looked over at Jamie.

[13:19] ℒαδყ Nicα Rαɠńivαrđ Sjöström (melisandramelodi) eyes round above her veil and then says, "We will just excell at building the city, Sir"

[13:19] Nikki Lordes (alwaysnikki): Refuses to make eye contact with William just gazes out over the balcony

[13:19] Elysia Turia Ambrosius (spiritsandwine): Congratulations.." She whispered over to the commander.

[13:19] Jamie Al'Azraq (slainjg) smiled, "Well, we have one on the way". then he shrugged.

[13:20] Niall Carver (bastnine) did smile at this, looking back to the table. He knew Jamie and Reese would come through.

[13:21] Aetius Rufus Vita (igor.rechkalov) offered a silent look toward Elysia in light of the topic and cleared his throat, otherwise remaining silent...

[13:21] Nikias Sjöström (stevesteven): Congrats Commander" he said then heard William and gave his mate that knowing glance that said, ready to meet the challenge?

[13:22] ℒαδყ Nicα Rαɠńivαrđ Sjöström (melisandramelodi) saw her Papa glance towards her Mama, and rolls her eyes, there they go again, arranging furniture in their room

[13:22] Joslyn Bernard (sophie.lacquey) heard the throat clearing, leaning forward and eying Aetius suspiciously, until her turned to give a pointed look to her daughter.

[13:23] Malice makes a note to stock up on cribs.

[13:23] Elysia Turia Ambrosius (spiritsandwine): Caught Aetius's gaze and the subtle cough. Was he a settling type of man? Did see the beamings eyes of her mother laser at her companion though.

[13:23] William Carver: "Well done Jamie " I would offer and then started to the next time " Construction projects have been keeping our builders very busy, most recently was a metal workers shop put near the lift to the upper city.  There has been some talk and suggestions of  making use of the Thassa facing part of the Olive grave for some worth wild community venture, a study is being conducted on that project "

[13:25] Trentan Hayford (trentanhayford) grins a bit, he was pretty happy about a new Metal Worker's shop.

[13:26] ℒαδყ Nicα Rαɠńivαrđ Sjöström (melisandramelodi) glanced over to the seating area and sees Trentan, she inclines her head, he seems all better. She nods at him.

[13:26] William Carver: " One suggestion was the relocation of the winery to this area to provide it with better views and easier access to guests of the City, this may make it more appealing for the Merchants for increased sales.  I will be taking some council from the Merchant Council on this to get their thoughts on such a move. "  I would then pause for a moment

[13:28] ℒαδყ Nicα Rαɠńivαrđ Sjöström (melisandramelodi) pipes up, "Oh yes, a much better location, indeed." turns to her father, "Isn't it, Papa?"

[13:28] Niall Carver (bastnine) looked over to Nica," That can be done?"He'd ask quickly. Moving a building seemed a great venture to embark upon.

[13:28] Trentan Hayford (trentanhayford) nods he quite liked the idea.

[13:28] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente) scribbles at note on his scroll suggesting turning the lovely forest area where the Winery is now into a Deer Park if that happens.

[13:29] Malice took the pause to interject... "I see it as a wise move, I informed Lady Tris to move forward, I believe she had plans for a new construction, that is all I have on the matter at this point. I will seek her out and see if there are any updates to her plans."

[13:29] ℒαδყ Nicα Rαɠńivαrđ Sjöström (melisandramelodi) turns to Niall, "We have in our possession skilled thralls, ready for the task, absolutely. Look at what we did almost over night for the companionship ceremony, of yesterday. Absolutely"

[13:31] Niall Carver (bastnine) nodded slowly; He'd have to see how this was done.

[13:33] William Carver: I would nod to Malice as he offered up new information. Comes to the last item on his agenda and speaks to it "  There have been some questions about buildings and land and who owns what and how.  I am going to try and give a summary of this to help bring some clarity.  Nikki Lordes owns all land and buildings on the Isle of Svago.   By agreement all buildings are held in trust by the City of Svago for management and maintenance on her behalf.  The City has delegated management of the Merchant Buildings to the Merchant Council.  The City has delegated management of the High Caste Buildings to each High Caste.  The City has delegated to Nikki Lordes management of the Residential buildings.  The City had delegated to the Administrator management of all other buildings and land not mentioned prior.  The City has delegated to the Administrator and any council he will take to authorize construction, demolition and remodeling of buildings in the City. “  I paused there and would say " This is how it has been

[13:33] William Carver:  since the formation of Svago, the founders have always been kind and generous to the people and the City of Svago, I hope this helps those who had questions. "

[13:33] Nikias Sjöström (stevesteven): Was curious if the admin wanted the building moved or a new one built. Either way, he would make it happened. Something he would discuss later with the admin, he just made a mental note

[13:35] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): "The Initiates wish to thank the City for the beautiful temple on its commanding height.  No one could ask anything better for our Caste."

[13:36] Marekai nods enthusiastically

[13:37] Ashellia Thorne Ana'Bandit (ashellia) heard nothing but wha wha wha delegation, delegation wha wha, delegation and delegation.. and due to the overuse of the delegation word a frown was delegated to her lips and a wrinkle delegated to her forehead

[13:37] Ashellia Thorne Ana'Bandit (ashellia) whispering "delegate me confused"

[13:38] Marekai looks up, feeling the icy wind of a thought statement, but, not knowing who was responsible, returns his attention to the meeting.

[13:39] William Carver: " That is all I have on my list, so we shall start with our Caste Reports, Initiates when you are ready "  I offered

[13:39] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente) unrolls a fairly lengthy scroll detailing the caste activity since the last Council meeting.

[13:39] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The Svago Temple celebrated the three major spring festivals : Waiting Hand, the Festival of En'Kara, and the Planting Feast.  I would like to commend the good people of Svago for participating in all these events and demonstrating their devotion to Priest-Kings.  We are blessed to have such a faithful City.

I would like to recognize that, as has been mentioned, we have had several births in the City, and also the recent Companioning of our illustrious Captain, Aetius and the noble Lady Ambassador Elysia,  The Temple of course was there to ask the blessing of Priest-Kings on their union, and in addition on the opening of the new metal-working shop in the lower city.  Please remember that the Initiates are happy to ask the favor of Priest-Kings on all events in the lives of the people of Svago, and to offer sacrifices on behalf of all beginning a new enterprise, or engaging in any significant activity in their lives, or who wish to give thanks for blessings given by the Holy Ones..

[13:40] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The Initiate of Tharna has been absent on a journey for this last month, and has asked me to offer devotions for his own people during this time, which I have been glad to do.  Tharna and Svago exchanged gifts to represent the friendship between our two cities: a pair of matching temple ringing bars composed of a mixture of Tharna silver and Svago gold.  At the last devotion, our Ambassador, Lady Elysia, went with us to engage in some informal diplomacy with the Tatrix of Tharna, and we were guarded during our journey by both the Warrior Nephtides, and then the Warrior Aetis, who carried out their guarding of myself and the Ambassador perfectly.  Thank you, Scarlet of Svago!

Finally, I would like to announce that the Svago Pilgrimage will take place on the next weekend. (( Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7 ))  There will be a discussion of the Pilgrimage and the Sardar Fairs in the next issue of the _Post_. and a more complete outline of what is planned during the event.  Anyone who is interesting in

I am considering the idea of having mock trials as part of the curriculum, which the citizens would be allowed to attend and participate in. This should provide a good learning experience for prospective Magistrates, and a chance for regular citizens to get to see the legal process, as well as a bit of entertainment for everyone as well... I am pleased to announce that we have entered into trade and diplomatic negotiations with Genesian Port. Two meetings between myself and their Ambassador have already taken place. The next step is to arrange a meeting between their head merchant and our Merchant head of caste to gain their input on the matter. To my knowledge that has not yet taken place, but I remain very hopeful that Sir Malice will soon arrange a time when he is available to attend to that matter.

It goes without saying that travel to Port Kar is discouraged as we have no diplomatic relationship with them. If a citizen is captured, which seems increasingly likely with recent hostilities, we have no way of retrieving you short of the actions of our brave warriors.

Panic in Lower City ?

The Warriors reported that a single breach in the wall from raiders leaves the entire lower city nearly defenseless. Although there is a growing threat from Port Kar and several other directions, those in the lower city are urged not to panic. Again, do not panic or demand something be done to protect the people and property.  Life is dangerous and the island planners are aware of the situation.

Aisha Na'Bandit , daughter of Pчяиιя Alα'Bαиdιт and Ashellia  Ana'Bandit, in a simple ceremony was presented with her seals as the first graduate of a course by Nikki Lordes. This class is pivotal in allowing Aisha to advance her career as a scribe

Aisha tearfully vowed "I am proud to be of the Home Stone and I will serve it as a scribe with pride and honor"

Her father, Commander Pyrnir Ala'Bandit added: "My daughter has grown into a strong Gorean woman of Svago and will serve the Caste of Scribes with the traditional stoic mind of a Bandit. And that all the men seeking my daughter's courtship better come with sword to bare or the wits to match my own.."

Svagp Poet Made Famous

Chrysoprase Ibn Yusef, of the Svago Entertainment caste, notes that one of his poems--thus far--have been turned into "The Poets Dance" by well known teacher Koardan and two  dancers, Svago's own Snow and Evina, property of Koardan.. They are performing this dance in other cities. and will present it to Svago on Wed at 6 pm

The Poet Himself said "He (Koardan) actually created a bit of music for it and the dancers did such beautiful emotes as their part of the dance to go with the parts of my poem...I am very honored and a bit proud they found my words worthwhile."

Gossip girl has been keeping a close eye on the city and feels the need to inform you all of what is REALLY going on

GG witnessed the attack or should I say attempt of an attack by Port Kar *spits on the ground*.  Despite the fact they had more men than we had warriors and defenders who were awake and not in the Tavern drunk, our men were able to fight them off and not allow them to even get through the gate.  GG did observe Boogie, who was sworn to the Svago Home Stone team up with the men of Port Kar against Svago.  I hear there is a price on his head..here let me help you.  GG takes a copper tarsk and whips it as hard as she can at Boogies head "to me you are not even worth that"

Over the weekend, it appears that the metal workers have moved to the opposite side of the city from the current forge.  Rumor has it they have some kind of contract with the ship builders and have been seen standing on the roof flagging down the warriors to tend to their weapons.  Slaves have also been seen flocking to the new shop, clearly a building is not the only thing they can erect quickly.

Now that the Captain of the Warriors has gone off and companioned, GG eyes shift for the next man to be targeted by all the Free women of the city "I see blue, I see green, I see ... what the heck is the color of the merchants after all, I would have said white but then all eyes would have been on the Initiate and THAT would be a mistake, the post prides itself on accurate gossip.

GG overheard Port Kar was added to the list of cities those of Svago should not visit.  Based on the Commanders words this is due to unrest in the city and previous hostile actions against Svago.  Shocker.. unruly pirates with basically no regard for customs of the south and Fina, a member of the league.  Lets add Sais and a few others and just save ourselves time.

GG was at the winery and poor Margaret a long time employee could barely pour my wine without spilling it, she was fretting over the upcoming move of the winery.  Since GG had no idea where or when this was going to happen she just bought Margaret a glass of her favorite wine and let her cry her little eyes out.

The houses are full, the shops are spilling with items to buy and sure enough the thieves are coming to the city.  People lock up your valuables, report suspicious activities immediately, keep your eyes on your fellow citizens and if you find any bakery items in small little bags, they are mine.  I seemed to have misplaced a few things...

[13:48] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The High Initiate gestures to the Sacristan to sound the ringing bar. As each peal of the bar sounds, he chants:

"Be reverent before Priest-Kings!"
"Let us go now to the Temple, the House of Priest-Kings, praising the Holy Ones for the return of spring.  All Free People, follow me when I go inside.  Slaves may kneel outside."
[13:50] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The thurifer continues into the temple and censes the interior, then returns to stand near the Initiate.
[13:50] Elysia Turia Ambrosius (spiritsandwine): Prepares herself to follow
[13:51] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The initiate raises his hands toward the Eternal Circle above the altar inside the Temple, and chants: "Holy and immortal Priest-Kings, accept the offering of your anointed one before your altar for the sacred festival of En'Kara and the New Year. Send your favor upon this your servant, and grant that my prayers to you may be heard."
[13:52] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): He turns to the Sacristan who is holding a bowl of blessed water and says, "By your power O Priest-Kings, and by the mingling with it of consecrated oil of chrism, bless this pure natural water from Thassa, that your servants who are touched by it may be purified to enter worthily into your holy temple.  Hear me, Priest-Kings!"

The High Initiate dips his hands in the blessed water, reciting as he does so, "Priest-Kings, holy and mighty, purify me, as this water is pure, I pray you."
[13:53] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The High Initiate raises his hands to the Eternal Circle above the altar and chants the Prayer of Purification.

"Holy Ones, this day, purify my mind, that I may know your Truth and proclaim it.
"This day purify my heart, that I may show your love and mercy to all.
"This day purify my hands, that I may help and heal all who are in any need.
"This day purify my ears, that I may hear your voice and obey.
"This day purify my feet, that I may walk in the way you have set for me to follow.
"This day purify my whole being that nothing unclean may touch or enter it."
[13:54] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The High Initiate touches his lips with the blessed water so that his mouth may be purified to speak the words to the Holy Ones, bows his head and exclaims: "Hear me, Priest-Kings!  This day and always, make me truly your blessed one, that I may perfectly serve your Will."
[13:55] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The High Initiate turns to the people gathered in the temple and says to them. "Come, good people of Tharna, and enter now into the temple of Priest-Kings.  Rejoice and be glad: this day is their gift!"
[13:55] Marekai sets the water bowl 0n the smaller table
[13:55] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The Initiates walk through the railing and the Sacristan takes his place beside the altar..  The High Initiate makes the sign of the Eternal Circle, holds up his hands to the Holy Ones, and chants in a loud, clear voice:

"Hail, Priest-Kings immortal!  Come, attend us now within your holy Temple!  Here, in your sacred presence we gather today to celebrate the Year-Turning of En'Kara-Lar-Torvis, the First Turning of the Central Fire, to greet the return of the Sun."
[13:56] S c a r  Gaius (perter.bayn): he wave his hand. "My Tatrix "
[13:57] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): "Praise be to you Priest-Kings, holy and mighty,
Who gladden our hearts with the return of spring.
We give you thanks for the gift of new life."
[13:57] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The Initiate's voice rings out triumphantly: "Shout aloud, all you people of Gor! in Tharna, raise your voices in exultation!  Sing hymns to Priest-Kings in all the ways of the City, and praise their name in the lands outside the walls.  Let your paeans resound to the beat of drums, to the music of the czehar and the happy sound of flutes.  Dance for joy on the grassy places, and leap high in delight beside the flowing water, amid the flowers, for the bonds of winter are broken!"
[13:58] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The Initiate chants: "In the high places, the chains of ice are shattered.  Snow melts under warm sun; soft rain falls, and all the earth is renewed.  Streams run free in flood from the mountains; the rivers rush down from the tall hills to shining Thassa, the sea.  The sound of the river's passing is like the earth's triumphant laughter.  The starving time is gone, and spring returns once more!"
[13:58] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The Initiate continues :"Behold! the trees leaf out and birds of the air nest in their branches.  Tarn and herlit lovingly tend their chicks. Valleys and fields are green with foliage, and uplands have become rich pasture. On the Plains and in the byres, bosk cows low, their udders filled with rich milk for their suckling calves.  Tabuk fawns hide in forest thickets, and in the Barrens, young kailiauk graze in meadows among spring flowers. Larl and sleen guard cubs in their dens, as their young grow strong and skilled in the hunt, and kaiila stand ready with fierce and happy hearts to defend their newborn colts."
[13:58] Sahiela Lavendel moves forwards a bit
[13:59] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): Finally, the Initiate chants joyfully: "And even in the Tahari, in the waste and desolate places, pools of new water well up to greet the dawning year. Lush grass sprouts around them, and young verr lambs gambol among the rocks as their dams eat and grow fat.  In the oases, green gardens are planted, and the date palms produce new fruit."
[14:01] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The High Initiate sprinkles a few drops of pure water from Thassa into the  brazier on the altar, saying: "Receive this pure water from Thassa, water which is our life, holy Priest-Kings, that all our lives may be made yours, and lived according to your laws."
[14:01] Marekai: As the water sizzles and evaporates, the the Sacristan says, "Accept this offering of life-giving water, holy Priest-Kings! We give you a gift; give to us your favor."
[14:02] S c a r  Gaius (perter.bayn): he makes a proud nod listening to the praise
[14:02] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The Initiate casts a pinch of salt into the flame, saying, "Receive this pure white salt, Priest-Kings, that, as it preserves from decay, and binds men together in brotherhood, so we may be preserved from all danger and bound to you by your benevolent power."
[14:02] Elysia Turia Ambrosius (spiritsandwine): Smiled- listening as her gloved hands came forward in front of her
[14:03] Marekai As the salt is consumed the Sacristan says, "Accept this offering of enduring salt, holy Priest-Kings!  We give you a gift, give to us your favor."
[14:03] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): Next, the Initiate breaks off a small piece of the honey-cake and drops it into the flame, saying, "Receive this honey-cake, made of sa-tarna flour and olive oil, with honey from our hives.  Holy Ones, we offer to you this symbol of our sustenance, that we may be maintained in prosperity from all hunger and want in the new year."
[14:03] Marekai As the bit of honey-cake is consumed in the flame, the Sacristan says "Accept this offering of food from our lands, holy Priest-Kings! We give you a gift; give to us your favor."
[14:04] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): Finally, the Initiate sprinkles a few drops of wine into the flame, saying, "Receive this wine which makes glad the heart of man, holy Priest-Kings, that our lives may be sweet, and our thanks for the good things you send us may ever ascend to you."
[14:04] Marekai As the drops of sweet wine sizzle and vanish in the flame, the Sacristan says, "Accept this offering of wine, holy Priest-Kings! We give to you a gift; give to us your favor."
[14:05] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The initiate turns to face those gathered in the temple. He raises his hands and blesses the people with the sign of the Eternal Circle, as he chants:
             
"So in this time of new life and new beginnings, I, your anointed one, in the name of Priest-Kings, call upon all their faithful people to cast away the things of Winter and the old year: darkness and sorrow, weariness and decay, bitterness and anger.  Let righteousness bloom like golden dina on the hillside, and justice flourish green like sa-tarna in blade in the field."
[14:05] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The Initiate continues, "Let their people also call upon Priest Kings in this season to renew our hearts, purging them of all malice and negligence. Let us shine like the returning Lar-Torvis, bright and pure, pledging before their altar willing and pious service to Priest-Kings, in accord with that which is commanded by each Free Man's Honor, Caste and Code.  Let each Free Woman vow anew in honor to fulfill her duty to her Caste, Family and Companion.  Let every slave strive to obey with perfection."
[14:06] Terek the Younger (kitten.serpente): The Initiate adds:
"Sing to Priest-Kings, all you people!  Sing praises, rejoice and be glad! Go forth now from their Temple, giving thanks to Priest-Kings for this new year.  Rejoice in their gifts, bearing the blessings of Priest-Kings to all the parts of the City and into every heart.  Hear us Priest-Kings as we praise you!  Ta Sardar Gor!"

Thank you for allowing us to grace your city this day. "
[14:14] Sahiela Lavendel turns to the lady from Svago, "We will be making contact with you in the future."
[14:15] S c a r  Gaius (perter.bayn): " if it is me allowed . We take the words of Svago very much to our hearts . and I hope you brign the warmest greetings back to Svago and Lady Nikki of which we so admire " he dare to say as Svago was his home stone until he was forced to leave
[14:16] Elysia Turia Ambrosius (spiritsandwine): "Aye, I will be looking forward to hearing from you, Lady.." She paused to incline her head subtlety.

[14:22] Sahiela Lavendel: Thus lady Elysia, my welcome. You may come and go in the city as you wish. *hands her an emblem.*

[13:06] Nikki Lordes (alwaysnikki): Laughs, so having rpd in gor for a long time (even before Nikki) and after having found a fantastic group of friends/family to role play with.  We found we were stuck with two things we had little control over.  One, the folks that ran the sims, we just did not have alignment with.  I mean I get it, you pay you make the rules and most of that to be honest I could deal with by making my own rp choices.  but how people were treated, how things were communicated to people who worked hard to make the sim a fun place to be, stuff like that was really an issue for me personally.  Second the damn sims opened and closed so fast that one could never get a story going and that is why ... basically to create a sim we would want to rp on

[13:08] Sara Inkpen (sarai.inkpen) that makes sense, Have you had a guiding principle then, other than a place you would like to rp on yourself?

[13:13] Nikki Lordes (alwaysnikki): Yes, there is def a vision for Svago.  First Icly we consider ourselves BTB.. this does not mean we are book thumping but things have to make sense for where we selected the city to be, etc.. I can go into more detail on that if you want, but its common sense kinds of things.  From an OOC perspective and how to manage the people part, well that to me is just as important.  I know that sometimes I have been referred to as a bitch, but for those that really know me, that is far from the truth.  I think treating people with respect and being sure they know I try to keep this a safe, fair sim too rp on

[13:16] Sara Inkpen (sarai.inkpen) thats interesting, I have never heard you called a bitch. I have been doing the paper a little over 2 years, so there has been ample opportunity. If anything, people say you are too nice! not any slaves, mind you, but everyone else. What do you say to that, Nikki? Then Jade and WIlliam, I would ask you the same question, since you both work closely with Nikki

[13:22] William Carver: I will concur with you Sara, there are times Nikki is far too nice, but she can certainly give tough love as well.  She works and will stress over things to be sure everyone is getting fair play.  But when she has had enough, they wind up on the ban list.  As you indicated, they have to work very very very hard to make that happen, she is very forgiving and very understanding giving people chance after chance to make things right.  In the end of it all, she wants everyone to enjoy their time here  and to help create this amazing story called Svago.

[13:35] Nikki Lordes (alwaysnikki): I have never considered Svago to be a major gorean sim, its pretty much the same to me since the day it was opened.  People come, people go.  I love the rp here, love the stories, love to help new goreans earn and grow in thier rp and because of a strong base of people and folks who are generous with their time in helping me every day... we are like the little engine that could and keep plugging along

[13:55] William Carver: I think I would add this to what has been said.  Nikki indicated she does not charge L$ but roleplay time.  For those that do not understand, you get housing, shops and a place to roleplay at zero L$.  That means to keep your apartment, your shop or IC leadership place you are expected to show up and roleplay.  Does this mean you are expected to be here all day everyday.. no.  Does this mean you can not take a weekend off or a week off to do something RL, no.  But on these planned outings I do implore people to let us know.  It really helps out on decision making.. Do we need to be worried that you are ok, has something happened... The transition from High Magistrate to Administrator is not going to be an easy, yet when duty calls one must answer it to the best of their ability. Our duty to Svago, our shared Home Stone is what drives the Citizens of Svago and makes Svago great. I believe the largest challenge will be to restore faith and harmony between the Merchant Caste and the High Council.  We must all understand that each Caste, high and low are important cogs in the wheel.  Rebuilding that faith between the Merchant Caste and our Ambassadors is vital to the life blood of our City.  Our Ambassadors under the leadership of our Regent have thrown a wide net seeking to establish Diplomatic relations with other Cities and opening their markets to our Merchants.  These are opportunities to be seized, as good trade relations reap not only good economic benefits but long lasting friendships.  In the end the goal is like any office you serve in, to leave things better than you arrived.  That is the duty of every free person holding any office.   I look forward to continuing to serve the Citizens of Svago.

I think Nikki hit the nail on the head for what I have seen to be her frustrations as a SIM owner, I missed the first ut oh but the tales I have heard!  I was lucky or unlucky to be here for the second one and talk with her through it.  I want to thank all the people of Svago who just rolled with it you guys and gals are awesome.  With out good folks like you having her back, well its just a real good feeling and helps more than you know.


What is a typical "behind the scenes" day like for Nikki? Has that differed any over the years?

IM's and lots of them.  I have NO idea how she keeps up with the IM's the roleplay and group chat.  But she does, and reminds me of when I am falling behind in post order.  She is an amazing woman and I believe that is truly due to the team of people she has around her.   There are some really talented people here in Svago that give an awful lot of their time and energy, the un sung hero's of the behind the scenes world.  I will not name them because even I have not yet figured out who all the ninjas of awesome are, things just happen so a big thank you to those people who ever you are, you rock!


Final question is: what one thing do you want people to know?

Svago is a team effort.  That is the secret of why Svago is on its 3rd year.  We have Nikki who has and is doing a great job of picking people and putting them in places to do the most good for Svago, be than an IC role an OOC role or a combination of the two.  In the end Svago is her baby and she wants the best care possible for it.  I hope to be able to be part of this vision of her's, supporting her and that vision for many years to come.

 From an actual sim perspective it is with Linden Labs and the way they dont seem to manage the environment very well.  Lag is my enemy and I make every effort to keep the sim with reasonable times so that we are all not acting like we are attached to a rubber band.  In that same light, it is a little frustrating that people put out all kinds of props in their homes or businesses that they never ever use and leave the scripts running.  To me that is a waste of the finite sim resources LL gives us.  So if I could ask one more time.. take the scripts out or set them to not running.  They will still look pretty and allow us to have  a better environment.


"what gives you the most joy?"

I absolutely love the sim wide events and role play that we (and no I could never do it alone) create for those of Svago.  Its amazing how a small group of us can set up a venue, provide prompts to a story, create props, clothes, an almost magical environment to allow the creation of amazing stories by our role players.  Carnival is my favorite, the gorgeous costumes, the colorful decorations, games, events that are fun and light hearted and role play that surrounds it keeps the typist laughing.

What is a typical "behind the scenes" day like for Nikki?

As you know I get very little sleep..laughs.  Typically I wake up to a bunch of messages from folks who are here role playing or visitors with questions/complaints and in between rp posts, throughout the day and night I am answering the same.  There are usually a few OOC discussion with other sim admins about plans for upcoming events and some OOC coaching of new role players or people to the city.  In between times I am keeping an eye on script times and of course all the wonderful earthlings that cant seem to read and just decide to tp into the city.  I have often been teased that running Svago is like a second full time job for me.. difference is I pay to do this and not get paid..laughs

Has that differed any over the years?

Really the behind the scenes things are pretty much the same, I have gained a lot of confidence so its easier to be honest.  I would say that having good friends oocly who are more than willing to help me and letting much be handled by those I trust is really something that has helped me preserve my sanity.  Plus there is always the benefit of having an amazing rp partner to keep me from jumping off the top of the temple when things get hectic.


Final question is: what one thing do you want people to know?

Svago is and always has been about role play, keeping things IC, not modding roleplay and expecting people to create stories and figure things out themselves.  I think over the years we have certainly reached that goal, have some of the best role players in gor and if you watch closely, many that move on either in a huff of frustration or quietly to explore greener pastures usually return.  Role play lives in Svago!!!

Svago has always tried to keep things IC, a couple of notable exceptions:

1.  People who break the OOC sim rules.. this could be dress, actions, weapons, etc.  I know it can be fun to rp these people and try and handle it icly, but it can surely ruin the immersion for others to have a cow sitting on the Inn cushion, an armed panther trying to trade on the docks or an earthling waking around the sim as if it was an open house.  Best course of action is to call for a sim admin assistant in group chat, or if you cant find one IM the person and ask them politely to leave.

2.  Combat Mod calls  - in the event a person (free or slave) thinks they have been involved in a combat that has not followed sim rules, please call for a combat mod in GC - once called for that rp needs to wait until a ruling has been given.  Please dont go OOC in local, nor in GC.. just wait patiently.  It is fine to IM the person and try to come to some resolution yourself.  As a reminder, here are the three simple combat rules:

1) *Thirty (30) minutes of RP required with target before attempt*
If you have your sights set on taking someone, keep in mind that it will NOT be honored if there are no active warriors on sim at the start of the rp.
2)  You must rp your intent to grab, apply capture scent, knock unconscious, draw your weapon, etc AND allow the target to emote a reaction to the aggressive action.
3)   You must rp leaving from the main docks (where the ship is)

LAWS OF THE ISLE OF SVAGO  ((FINAL DRAFT))

The Isle of Svago is a roleplay sim. This document does not encompass every scenario that might present itself. It's the role play that will determine changes, removal or new laws. Like RL, it's a guide to maintain some semblance of order.


---------------SECTION 0 - CITIZENSHIP---------------


0.1   Any Free Person that has sworn to the Home Stone is considered a Citizen. Any newly arrived or any Free Person that has sworn to another Home Stone, is considered a Resident  only only after they have signed the Registry located outside the Library. They will then be considered protected by Svago's Laws. All other Free Persons will be classed as visitors and not protected by Svago’s Laws

0.1.2   All residents and citizens must pay taxes.
The tax on sold goods is 2%.
The tax on rental and real estate (homes) is 5%.
The Harbormaster will be responsible for charging a 1% tax on all imports and exports of Svago.


0.2    Every child born of a Free Woman being resident or citizen is automatically a resident until the child comes of age at 15 years old and can then choose to swear to Svago’s Home Stone or register as a resident of Svago.

0.3   Official positions (Ubar, Administrator, Regent, Head of Caste, Assistant Head of Caste, High Magistrate, Ambassador, Praetor, Merchant Magistrate) can only be held by citizens of Svago.

---------------SECTION 1 - GOVERNMENT---------------

1.1    The Isle of Svago is governed by the High Council. It consists of two members from each of the Five High Castes (Initiate, Scribe, Builder, Physician, Warrior) and is overseen by the Administrator or the Regent. The Regent takes on all responsibilities and privileges of the Administrator in the Administrator’s absence. The two representatives normally consist of the Head of Caste and Assistant Head of Caste. Each of the High Castes has only one vote but 2 permanent seats at the High Council Table

1.2    All matters of State must be approved of by at least three votes in favour.  The Administrator's vote is only applied in cases of a deadlock  or when he is acting as proxy for an absent Caste representative with that representative's knowledge.

1.3   In addition there are three other permanent seats at the High Council table however without voting rights. These consist of the High Magistrate, the High Ambassador and the Head Merchant. They report to the High Council and their advice may be sought.

1.4    In times of war, the High Council may nominate an Ubar, from the Warrior Caste, who upon their appointment  will have ultimate control of the Isle of Svago, military and civil, leaving the High Council to act as advisors to the Ubar. Once war has ended, power reverts to the High Council.


1.5    The Laws of Svago bind every Citizen, Resident and Visitor of the Isle of Svago, and are enforced by the Warrior Caste, in some circumstances, under the guidance and instructions of the Magistrates and Praetors who will issue arrest warrants.

1.6    Visiting Ambassadors  and any Free Person(s) accompanying them are to be given free passage providing they adhere to the Laws of Svago

1.7    Alliances and War:

1.7.1    Ambassadors may be from any Caste and are appointed by the High Council through recommendation of their Head of Caste. While Ambassadors answer directly to the High Council they remain under the jurisdiction of their Head of Caste.

1.7.2    Trade alliance negotiations will be the responsibility of the appointed Ambassador(s) and sealed by the High Council.

1.7.3   Notification of Trade and Safe Passage Alliances will be provided to Magistrates and Warriors to ensure representatives of the Trade City are treated appropriately.

1.7.4   Military alliance negotiations are the responsibility of the Commander or any of his designees. Notification of Military Alliances will be provided to Magistrate and Warriors to ensure representatives Allied City are treated appropriately.

1.7.5    Declarations of war only become valid when the Commander or his Designee approach the High Council with evidence of aggression or impending assault to the Isle of Svago. The request must be approved by a majority High Council vote.

1.7.6    Safe Passage Agreements of any kind, will be for 90 Gorean Days (1 RL month) and visiting city's citizens will follow current cities, laws.  The agreement will be reviewed within 90 days.  Visitors must have some visible marker, or document sealed by a scribe, that they are from an Allied City.

1.7.7    Deals between Merchants or Merchant Houses are a private matter and not subject to any rulings as long as they adhere to Merchant Law.


---------------SECTION 2 - JUDICIAL PROCESS---------------

2.1    Magistrates are recommended by the High Magistrate, Head of the Scribes  or Administrator should there not be a High Magistrate at that time. They report directly to the High Council but remain, in matters of their caste under the jurisdiction of the Head of the Caste of Scribes, as they play a dual role as both upholder of Civil law and their duties as a scribe.

2.2  The High Magistrate will be male.

2.3   Only the High Council can overturn any Civil and Merchant Magistrate's ruling through appeal. And only then through unanimous vote to do so.

2.4   When Merchant Law applies, the Merchant Magistrate will hear the case and rule. When Civic laws applies Magistrates will hear the case and rule. In mixed situations the magistrates will confer.

2.5   In case of capital crimes female Magistrates need to have their rulings approved by the High Magistrate or male colleague.

2.6    Praetors have the authority to adjudicate (judge) any minor crime in the area they are charged to patrol, usually markets and docks. The decision is immediate. If the convicted wishes to appeal, their case will automatically go to trial. All capital crimes will be passed onto the Magistrates.

2.7    Once a topic or case is ruled upon it can not be brought up a second time.

2.8 Investigations  and Evidence:

2.8.1    Investigations are conducted either by the Warriors or the Advocates under the authority of the Civil and Merchant Magistrates.  Results of said investigations are to be shared among those authorities if/as needed. They will present the evidence to the Magistrates who will make the judgement, this could be in the form of a meeting or a trial, depending on the severity of the crime.

2.8.2    Any citizen may request an investigation of suspected illegal activity by lodging a Citizen's inquiry with the appropriate Civil and/or Merchant Magistrates office.

2.8.3    All evidence of possible violations of law will be brought to the attention of the Civil and/or Merchant Magistrates for investigation. Hearsay will not be accepted.



2.9 Arrest Powers:

2.9.1   The power of arrest lies with the Magistrates, Praetors and any member of the Warrior Caste of the Isle of Svago. These alone may detain or order the arrest of any Citizen or Visitor for breaches of the peace or investigation of violations of the applicable law. Any order issued by a member of the Warrior Caste must be obeyed, including removal of weapons.

2.9.2   Any Citizen of the Isle of Svago may request that a Magistrate, Praetor or Warrior make an arrest on their behalf. This does not negate the Magistrates, Praetor or warrior’s own decision making process to determine if an arrest is justified.

2.9.3    Praetors can place anyone under arrest for any crime committed in their area. If it is discovered during investigation that the crime committed no longer falls under their jurisdiction, the suspect will be arrested and the case taken to the fitting Magistrate.

2.9.4   No non-authorised citizen can legally arrest another free of Svago unless under the direct instructions of a member of the High Council.


2.10    Civil criminal Acts:

Based on laws defined by the City High Council, and agreed upon will be enforced by the Legal Branch of the government.

All Punishments given for the following crimes will be at the discretion of the Magistrates.

A) Murder, Attempted Murder: any action aimed at injuring a Free Person intentionally.

B) Treason; This is defined as the act of trying to overthrow and undermine the High Council of Svago and it's leading Citizens.

C) Spying; This is defined as the gathering of information both verbally and in writing and drawing of information that can be used against the Isle of Svago.

D) Helping a prisoner to escape from Svago’s Jail.

E) Failure to obey the direct orders of a City Official, within the jurisdiction of that Official.

F) Theft, the deliberate stealing or using of other Free Persons property.

G) Damage/Destruction of another Free Persons property, or acting with the intentions of causing such.

H) Picking of any locked gate or door.
I) Slander; This is defined as the defamation of another Free Person's character or business when there is no truth in the accusation which results in substantial loss of business income and/or harm in reputation.


J) False Testimony: defined as not telling the whole and complete truth when questioned by a City Official.

K) Face stripping of a Free Woman in a public place.

L) Claiming to be of a Caste which is not their own.

M) Enslavement:
1)    Enslaving one of the Caste of Players or Caste or Musicians
2)    Enslaving a free woman of the own Home Stone which is not your companion without approval of the a Magistrate in the matter.

Acceptable reasons for enslavement:
       1)    Unpaid debts
       2)    Self submission
       3)    Stipulations within a Free Companionship  contract
       4)    Couching another's slave or readying to do so.
       5)    Slavish behaviour:
               -   Dressing/acting in a lewd or scandalous manner
               -   Performing a Sensuous dance
               -   Addressing a man as 'Master'
               -   Kneeling other than in free woman tower
               -   Indecency and vagrancy
        6)    Being found branded without proper manumission papers
        7)    Existence of proper slave papers without proper manumission papers



2.11   Acts Against Merchant Law

Punishments will be at the discretion of the Merchant Magistrate.

A)  Trade (Fraud)
1)    Scales failing calibration, tested 4 times a year
2)    A merchant using a deceptive Foot or Stone
3)    Alteration of coin weights (shaving, etc.)
4)    Falsification of Pedigree Papers on any slave
5)     Falsification of any bill of sale
6)    Running a business without formal registration with the caste of merchants

B) Property(Theft)

    a)    Failure to pay debts
    b)    Sale of stolen items

C) Slaves

a)    Public sale of an unbranded slave.
b)    Failure to register a slave according to law in Svago
c)    Failure of an owner to have their slave wear a visible token of their slavery.





----------------SECTION 3 - FAMILY LAW---------------

3.1    The eldest male of any household is the governing authority. If no male resides in the household, the closest related living male blood relative shall have governing authority over the female relatives, even if they do not reside in the same house.

3.2  In case of Death of a citizen of Svago:

3.2.1    Upon death of a Male Citizen of the Isle of Svago, privately held assets and estate shall transfer as follows: 

          Closest living male relative, if none then -
          His companion at time of death, if none then -
          Oldest known daughter, if none then -
          State of the Isle of Svago
   
3.2.2    Upon death of a Female Citizen of the Isle of Svago, privately held assets and estate shall transfer as follows: 

            Her companion at time of death, if none then -
Closest living male relative, if none then -
            Oldest known daughter, if none then -
            State of the Isle of Svago

3.3    Any free person who wishes their estate to be divided other than as above, must record it with the Caste of Scribes as proof.

3.4   Upon enslavement of a Citizen of the Isle of Svago, all property shall transfer to the owner.

Children:
3.5    A child's status is determined by the status of the mother at birth. If the woman is free, so is the child, and subject to their father's authority. If the woman is a slave, the child becomes property of the woman's owner.

3.5.1   A child’s caste is determined by the caste of the father at birth

3.5.2    A child's citizenship is determined by the status of the father. Is he a citizen or resident so the child is automatically a resident until coming of age at which point the free person can decide its allegiance on its own free will..

3.6    Following rules apply to free women in Svago:
3.6.1  The wearing of a veil, headscarf and robes of concealment by a Free Woman is not a matter of Law but for the protection of the Free Woman, the choice remains with the Free Woman, but she must be prepared for the consequences.

3.6.2    Free women are expected to conduct themselves with a certain level of decorum in public, one that is worthy of their status as a Free Woman.  If a free woman of Svago is accused of conduct befitting enslavement, the accuser may seek out her companion, oldest male relative within the city, their Head of Caste or file a complaint with the Civil Magistrates.

3.6.3    A Free Woman is entitled to her own opinion and to voice it but should also be aware of the possible consequences of her actions.

3.6.4    Free Women have the right to own property, including real estate, businesses and slaves.

3.6.5    Free Women have the right to own slaves of either gender. She is not acting improperly by allowing her slaves to touch her in public however touching of a sensual or sexual nature is grounds for an investigation into conduct befitting a collar.

3.6.6    Free Women have the right to be out of their quarters without escort.

3.6.7    Free Women have the right to travel escorted outside of Svago unless a male relative or her companion forbids this.  Traveling unescorted is at her own risk.

3.6.8    Free Women have the right to sit in Free Women's Tower without threat of being slandered, questioned or threatened with a collar.

3.6.9    A Free Woman, Citizen or Resident of the Isle of Svago may only be enslaved on the express order of a Magistrate or by her Companion or legal Guardian if so stated in the contract signed by both parties.

3.7 Following rules apply to slaves in Svago:

3.7.1 All slaves of the citizens and residents of Svago must be registered with the City, which requires a physical sealed by the Physicians of the Isle of Svago less than one year old. All slaves are required by law to wear a token of their slavery. This can be collar or brand or both.

3.7.2 All publicly sold slaves shall have a bill of sale and shall be branded prior to completion of the transaction according to Merchant Law.

3.7.3 Slaves with no clear owner shall be handed over and held by the Slave Houses. Slaves created by the State shall likewise be handed over to a Slave House.


----------------SECTION 4 - CASTE LAW---------------

4.1    A Head of Caste will be male. The Assistant Head of Caste may be of either gender.

4.2    A Head of Caste may be dismissed by the High Council.

4.3    A Head of Caste may choose to act as the Caste representative or appoint a representative. If a representative is chosen by the Head of Caste, no other may cast a vote in his place, including the Head of Caste himself.

4.4    All Heads of Castes, Praetors, High Magistrate, Magistrates and Merchant Magistrates and Ambassadors need to be approved by the Administrator and the High Council of Svago.

4.5    Caste structure and rules of Svago:
4.5.1      The High Castes ...
of the Isle Island of Svago, in traditional order of authority, are:
The Caste of Initiates (White),
The Caste of Scribes (Blue),
The Caste of Builders (Yellow),
The Caste of Physicians (Green),
The Caste of Warriors (Red).

4.5.2     The Caste of Initiates …(White)
act as the voice of the Priest-Kings and are the spiritual advisors of the Isle  of Svago.

4.5.3      The Caste of Scribes …(Blue)
act as the  Record Keepers, Magistrates, Praetors, Map Makers, and Librarians for the Island of Svago.
A)   Maps of the city are to be kept by authorized Scribes and Warriors only, Any person, free or slave, found in possession of a map of the Isle of Svago without authorization shall be subject to punishment.

B)   Both free men and free women perform caste work within the Caste of Scribes.

C)   The Caste will organize and run and organize the annual census.

4.5.4      The Caste of Builders …(Yellow)
act as the authority on all matters of infrastructure for the Isle  of Svago. Only Free Men of the Caste may engage in the building and maintenance of the walls and buildings of the Isle  of Svago. Free women of the caste are restricted to planning and overseeing and organizing the actual work.

4.5.5     The Caste of Physicians …(Green)
act as the authority on all matters of public health. Free men and free women may both work within the Caste of Physicians.

4.5.6      The Caste of Warriors …(Red)
act as the protectors of law and order for the Isle of Svago.

The Head of the Warrior Caste will also act as authorized authority to discuss military alliances with other cities on behalf of the High Council. Such authority includes, but is not limited to finalizing, changing, and approving any such alliances.

All free of the Isle of Svago have the right to defend themselves. Free men of the Isle of Svago may wear visibly wield small weapons (ie: swords, daggers, small crossbows). Free women of the Isle of Svago may not wear visible weapons but may have a concealed dagger or pin on their person for defence only
   
      C) Mercenary work may be performed by any Free Man wishing to voluntarily take up employment as a private guard, mercenary, or similar endeavor. When such occurs, the free man is exempt from any punitive action for not performing their Caste duties for as long as the mercenary contract is in effect. All Mercenary contracts must be filled through the Magistrate’s office to be put into official record.

       D) Free women may be a part of the Caste of Warriors, either by birth or companionship, but play no part in the work of the Caste.

4.5.7      The Low Castes …
have no order of authority, though general tradition holds that the Caste of Merchants is the ‘lead’ Low Caste.

4.5.8      The Caste of Merchants ...
shall act as the authority on all matters of Merchant Law and coin.

A)   The Head of Caste will determine, under authority and approval of the High Council, standard for weight for all coins stamped with the seal of the Isle of Svago. The Isle of Island of Svago recognizes and follows the Merchant Laws as drafted at the Sardar Fair.

B) The Head of Caste will employ Merchant Magistrates upon the approval of the High Council.

C)The Merchant Magistrates investigate and judge on all matters of Merchant law. If a case in part goes into civil law he will hand that part to the Praetor or a Magistrate for a ruling on it. Appeals to the ruling go into the regular appeals process.

4.5.9      The Caste of Assassins
The caste of Assassins will not have an established base in the Isle of Svago.

4.5.10  The Caste of Thieves
is not recognized by the Isle Island of Svago and all those claiming this Caste are automatically considered an outlaw and subject to punitive actions of the Laws of the Isle of Svago.
